JoAnne was diagnosed with suspected cholangiocarcinoma in May of 2014. Her symptoms were persistent back pain. Ultrasound investigation showed a collapsed bile duct that was initially treated with a stent. Further tests confirmed the diagnosis and she underwent Whipple surgery in early September. Unfortunately her margins were not clean and several lymph nodes were involved. She lost nearly 50 pounds in weight. After several months she commenced chemotherapy which initially showed improvement in her liver mets. We now await oncologist advice on further treatment options. JoAnne is an incredible fighter and has gone through hell with this horrible disease. Her mantra throughout has been “I’m not afraid of dying, I just don’t want to”. She is my hero.
