Berta Alicia Barraza

English

If roses grow in heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
Place them in my mother’s arms
And tell her they’re from me
- Dolores M. Garcia

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, at the age of 60, God called Berta Alicia Barraza to join her heavenly family. Berta Barraza passed peacefully, with the love of her family surrounding her.

Berta was born in Apopa, El Salvador on August 20th, 1961 to the late Jose Facundo Barahona and Elena Martinez de Barahona. Along with her parents, Berta was finally reunited with the love of her life, her beloved husband of 38 years, Guillermo Barraza, who awaited her arrival at Heaven’s Gate. Berta spent the last year talking about how much she was looking forward to seeing him in Heaven. They were a romantic, through-thick-and-thin couple, dancing to scratchy records, scrimping to pay the mortgage, and giggling like teenagers on date nights. There was always a fresh bouquet of flowers as Guillermo loved to bring her fresh-cut roses from his garden.

She also had many passions. Mom loved watching Caso Cerrado, “accidentally” buying $40 worth of frozen yogurt – all toppings included, and enjoying traditional Salvadoran foods such as pupusas, tamales, and Pollo Campero. She was one of those people who radiated a glow and recounted life’s difficulties with gracious acceptance.

Berta is survived by her loving daughter and their spouse, Thelma Tatiana Barraza and Andrew Ryan Austin; her sisters, Rosa Elvira Barahona Martinez, Jessica Barahona Martinez, Rosa Elena and Gloria Barahona Martinez; her brothers, Ismael Barahona Martinez, Jose Luis Barahona Martinez, Oscar Barahona Martinez, and Ricardo Barahona Martinez; and her loyal dog and protector, Milo.

While Berta’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember Berta in a way that honors her spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family invites the community to make Memorial Donations to help find a cure for cholangiocarcinoma.

She was loving and much loved.
