There are other issues as well, Duke.
    1. current classification for CCA:
    intrahepatic
    hilar (peri-hilar)
    Distal

    2. The information is outdated.
This study includes intrahepatic CCA with primary liver cancer (HCC) therefore, we really don’t know the number of intrahepatic patients.
    3. hilar and distal CCA are lumped together.
Although intrahepatic “used” to be lumped in with Hepatocellular Cancer ( it long has been changed. However; they followed the old classification.

Study eludes to the fact that intrahepatic CCA is similar to Hepatocellular cancer (well, it is not; they are two distinct, different cancers.) Therefore; if that were true (it is not) then incidence of occurrence would be similar to HCC.
    Quote:
” It has been suggested that the etiology of ICC is more similar to that of another type of liver cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), than to the etiology of ECC. If this is true, geographic incidence patterns and trends in ICC incidence should be more similar to that of HCC than ECC.”

Much work went into this study, but I am not sure of how much value it is to us.

Interesting, the more you read it.

I wish they had included the population in the various areas so you could get a better idea of the actual percentage of the population affected.

Duke…correct, Mayo is in the process of recruiting additional participants for a more extensive data collection. The intent of their research to include international patients as well. A major problem is the tissue collection crossing international borders as well as the regulatory restrictions posed by the individual countries. This is pertaining to tissue only; blood samples can freely pass international borders.

Maybe they will publish the results when they get more data Duke, let’s hope so.

I wonder if the data from the Mayo Clinic study supports this.

BTW, they won’t answer my emails about what they are doing and when they will report more findings. Major disappointment to me.
