I would check out greenbridgemed.com and learn about CBD. My husbands appetite has never been better, he is in good spirits and feels well. When diagnosed with metastatic CC back in October he was very depressed. He decided against chemo as it is not effective for CC and he did not want to become a professional patient. He wanted to travel and enjoy the time he had left. we have done that. He has been on CBD for 6 months now and they cannot find any sign of tumors.
    But we have other problems!!
If your Dad is losing muscle mass, you might try Carnation Instant Breakfast or Ensure to build him back up.
The Bilirubin is the last to go back to normal. The other liver enzymes will lower first. The itching will continue to recede. The urine should gradually get less dark. Plenty of water helps. Give it a few weeks and your Dad hopefully will feel much better, Katia.
I wish you the best of luck and good fortune.

Katia……I wouldn’t worry too much about your Dad’s like and dislike for food as long as he takes in the calories needed (hopefully high in protein.) Loss of appetite can be associated with high bilirubin count therefore; it is likely for your Dad’s palette to change again with time.

katia, my husband was a chocoholic Sicilian who would eat anything! Every thing changed with the CC. He seem to prefer comfort food. As for the Jaundice I would say the stenting started working in a few days but the yellow tint hangs on a while. It is like it colored the skin. IF things do not stop and the itching continues the stents may need to be checked.

    Thank you Kris!

His bilirubin was at 29 when he got the stent! And believe it or not, at the university hospital in Liege, Belgium, were he was supposed to stay , they told him he could wait for another month to have anything done to him. He had said he wanted a second opinion and now he thinks that is why they just left him like that. When he asked them over the phone why they had not placed a stent during his first days of hospitalization there, they said that they had made everything according to ” his imperatives.” . That makes us so angry! As if my dad had had to tell them what to do!.

The hospital in Leuven. Where he will have his operation, was shocked when we said what happened in Liege. Shameful!!!

    Katia –
I am glad he got the stent. It will help although it may not get rid of it all. My husband had one before his surgery. He was able to drop his bilirubin from 15ish to less than 10. He luckily had no itching. Try to encourage fluids as this will help flush this stuff out of his system.
As for food you are right his tastes will change. My husband completely lost his taste for coffee and he was someone who drank 1 or 2 pots a day. He also lost his taste for beer another great loss in his mind. There were other foods that he didn’t care for anymore. Just keep changing things up. I know that red meats often start tasting metallic so things like chicken and fish are often better. Also you may want to stay away from metal eating utensils and go to plastic utensils to limit the metallic taste.
    Good luck

    O.K.

    Here is the situation:

Dad has had a stent in place since last Monday.
Thanks to your advices, he has a diet in place to help him gain weight before the surgery.

I think dad thought that the symptoms from the jaundice would disappear quite quickly, but that is not really the case.
His urine is still dark, the itching is still going on ( but less strong ). He also is losing taste for certain things. He asked for a smoothie without a banana today. Also no cherry tomatoes with the main course! That is a surprise as he usually loves them and was eating them a week ago!

Is the normal? And is there anything we can do??

He is a bit fed up now. Used to be a bit of a foodie, so him getting off is food is rather upsetting.
