    Hi Linda,
    As to your question about doctors in the NY area, I would suggest Memorial Sloan-Kettering, as I’ve heard great things about them. Someone else here can chime in about which specific doctors specialize in cc. My mother’s experience at NYU was horrific – very long waiting times, impersonal doctors (even though they were experts in cc), so I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. best of luck – sounds like your father has a lot of years left to live!

    Thank you for the advice Marion and Kris. I think the doctors are leaning toward 6 months of chemo and radiiation since my dad is otherwise healthy and in shape. Best of luck to all.

    The question of chemotherapy post-resection has been pondered before by other members on this board, and I believe it to be a personal decision. Certainly, I would continue to inform myself about the pros and cons of a follow-up treatment. Ultimately, when presented with the information your Dad will be able to choose one direction over the other. I believe his 1B staging in addition to no lymph node involvement and his tumor markers showing to be in the

    I am thinking a read somewhere on Pubmed that the increase in survival was greatly influenced by chemo and radiation. I cant remember which type of cc it was. You can search on the Pubmed website to find out for sure.

    My father is 68 and was diagnosed with extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma in february. Stage 1B. He underwent a successful resection and is making a full recovery. His tumor markers are great and his lymph nodes are clear. No sign that it has spread. As of now he is cancer-free.

    The doctors are unsure whether to give him precautionary radiation or chemo because there are not enough statistics with this rare cancer as to whether or not it would even help. As of now they say there is a 60-70% chance that it won’t come back in his case and chemo may raise that an extra 10%.

    Just wondering if anyone has advice on if they think a person in my dad’s situation should have chemo or not. And if so, is there an oncologist in the NY area that they can recommend?
