So happy to hear of the shrinking of tumors! I think you will be so happy with the port in place. Please keep us posted on how everything goes this nest go around…..sending prayers for shrinkage of the next 2/3rds!!

Catherine, I am glad your mom is in remission. I hope she continues to do well.
I will have the port put in on the 9th of May as I think chemo will be part of my life for sometime and my veins are getting tired.
    All the best, Brigitte

    Hi,

So happy to hear the chemo is working. On the ports, I have Mom with CC and Dad with lung cancer. With Mom, we still regret to this day that we did not get the port sooner. She went through pain and anxiety that we could have avoided. In addition to the chemo, there are still the quarterly scans that they access the port for. And, unfortunately we have had many doctors tell us that the veins get brittle with chemo and they do not bounce back.

With Dad’s chemo, we were not given the option- oncologist said port was needed (and we knew we wanted it).

Now that we are so fortunate that Mom is in remission, she does have to get the port flushed every 6 weeks when it hasn’t been used, but she says it’s simple – she will never give up her port. And,having it flushed from lack of use is pretty great problem to have.

    Best wishes,
    Catehrine

bgmat….congratulations, a fantastic response to treatment. I am happy right along with you. I believe that the majority of patients use a port and hopefully share some of their own thoughts with you.
In the meantime I am enclosing a link leading to pictures and postings of ports provided by our very own nurse, Karin D. http://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=13917

I think you will do very well, dear Bridget.

    Hugs,

    Brigitte,

From posts I have seen of others I think a port would be a good choice. I’m sure others will be along shortly who have experience with this. Sounds like things are progress well. Hope this continues.

    Hugs,
    Darla

I had a scan on Wednesday and the results today. After 6 chemo infusion spread over 3 months the 2 lesions on my liver have shrunk by a third. My oncologist wants me to have 6 more sessions over 3 months and than another scan. I must admit, I am relieved and feel blessed and happy.
Because I am facing more chemo and my veins seemed to be tired (lots of bruising every time I get a blood test or chemo) the doctor asked me if I would consider a port. I looked it up on the internet and think it might be better to have one. Any advice would be appreciated.
