It is too much, more than anyone should have to bear and I am so sorry you are going through this. I hope you have support from other family and friends. I agree that you need to ask her doctors to lay the cards on the table. Have you had any discussions about hospice care?

Hope and faith are what make this journey tolerable

    hopeandgrace,

I am so sorry that things are not going well for your Mom and for what she is going through. My husband passed away only 7 weeks after his first symptoms, so a lot of what your Mom is going through we never experienced as his cancer was already so advanced by the time he had the first symptoms that he never really even had a chance for any type of treatment. It all went so fast we didn’t really even have time to think about it. He was diagnoised positively for the CC 1 week before he passed on.

It does all seem like too much & is so overwhelming to both the patient & the family, isn’t it? This disease is just so unpredictable. You never know what to expect next.

In your Mom’s case, I think you always have to have hope, but I do believe that her comfort is the most important thing. She needs to be kept as pain free as is possible. Just be there for her and give her your love & support. She needs your strength, so you need to take care of yourself too so you can be strong for her.

It does all seem like too much & is so overwhelming to both the patient & the family, isn’t it? I will keep all of you in my thoughts & prayers and will hope for the best for your Mom. Please keep us updated as to how things are progressing when you can. Come back whenever you need to just to talk or vent your feelings or whatever. We are all here to give you our help and support. We all know how your are feeling & what you are going through. We have all been there too.

    Lots of Love & Hugs,
    Darla

    Hi all,

I received so much support the last time I wrote and am hoping for a little encouragement and insight. My mom has not been doing well. She hasn’t had any chemo since two weeks before Christmas as she couldn’t tolerate it anymore. There is a pill form they have talked about trying, however, they were waiting for blood work to come back to see if that is even an option. At this point, I believe they will choose to cease all treatment.

Her jaundice is very very bad. Especially over the past two weeks or so. However, her bile ducts aren’t obstructed. I’m assuming this means that the liver itself then is just shutting down?

Yesterday around lunchtime she began vomiting large amounts of blood. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital and it was discovered there that she had esophageal varices. They were able to seal up the ruptured veins but it was quite a scare. I really thought we were going to lose her yesterday. She is very weak.

I have no idea what to expect, I have no idea how long she can go on like this. The poor thing has endured it all. Chemo embolizations, gemzar and cistplatin, a broken bone in her arm from where the cancer spread that left the nerves exposed, bone pain in her back from where the cancer spread, I could go on and on. I know so many of you have endured the same and I commend you all. It just seems like so much.

You all are in my prayers.
