MarionMayo in Minnesota. My mom went there in October. They have a very strict protocol. My mom saw Dr. Alberts in oncology – I don’t know how much cross over there is between oncology and surgery/transplant there. There is also a YouTube video out there on transplantation for cholangiocarcinoma through Mayo and I am thinking in that case, the YouTube video is out of Arizona, but I may be wrong.

I have looked at the Utah and Nebraska sites and will contact Utah on Monday. Those of you who mention Mayo, is that in Mn or in Fl. ? Do you know a surgeonos name to research?
Thanks to everyone who responded I will keep you all up dated on my quest. At this point it is just for information.
I am holding strong now since September and will get new films this week.
BETH OBeth, I’m not sure that anyplace will do a transplant after a failed resection. I’m pretty sure that a prior resection removes someone from the Mayo protocol. That said, you may want to contact New York Presbyterian. We had a meeting with a couple of surgeons there last Spring who said they might consider such an operation for the right patient.
yes. i mean surgery was 2 years ago and now there is new evidence of disease in the remaining liver but that is all and it has been stable for 6 months. so i am not asking about transplant for those who are unresectable at diagnosis. I am wondering if anyone knows of a trial or a center where they are being more aggressive with transplants. It is an odd question, I know.

But also look at the University of Nebraska. I found them by chance, I think from reading posts here. They follow the Mayo protocol. I spoke with them on the phone regarding my mom and they were very nice.

My mother was also transplanted at the Mayo in Minnesota last November. For her protocol, they biosied ONLY the lymph nodes prior to accepting her into the protocol ( they were negative). Then after 4 months of chemo, brachytherapy and radiation it all came down to ONE staging surgery done the day prior to transplant. They cut her open to see if there were any mets. Luckily it had not spread and she was transplanted the next day. Had it spread, there would be no transplant we were told. I have read one story where a patient was transplanted and during the operation they determined it had spread but the surgery had already started. To my knowledge they will not transplant knowing that it has metasticized, which is why we need earlier detection for this cancer. Again, this is just my family experience and what I have learned based on our journey.

I had a liver transplant to treat CC last October at the Mayo Clinic.
Fantastic medical staff; very knowledgeable on the disease and treatment options.
I believe that the protocal for doing liver transplants to treat CC was developed at the Mayo.Beth at the top of our site here is a search engine and just type in liver transplants and my guess is you will see more posts than you can imagine.
