I had fluid on my lung recently and the relief of having it drained was great. If they can do this soon, it might help Jim feel better. Sending good thoughts.Kris

I just want you to know that I am sorry for what you are going through – what a tough time it must be for you and your family. Just know that there are many people thinking of you and praying for you and Jim. I hope they are able to keep Jim as comfortable and possible and he is able to check a few more things off his “to do” list! Please take care of yourself too! Keep us posted!Jen
Thank you Janet. I think we will try to see the onc this week and get him on hospice now. I think he will feel much better as well. I figured he would only be in the hosp for an overnight stay. Thank you for your kindness and concern. It is really nice to have a place to post your concerns. thank you guys. Donna
Donna,try and keep Jim out of hospital.He needs the hospice/palliative treatment now because he needs it to be accessable and coming to him.It may make a big difference to how he feels.If the pleural tap needs to be done,he would not be in hospital long,just a day,overnight at most. Janet
our oncologist asked us to wait on Hospice till Jims next appt, Which is June 11.
Jim is not on o2 yet. I think he will need to go back to oncology next week. He
is so afraid he will have to go to the hospital again. He hates it. He has a few more things on his ‘to do list’ and won’t hear of anything getting in his way. I have talked to the pcp today. He explained that the effusion might need to be drained. He just didn’t think it was time yet. He feels that the lung might be involved at this point. Jim is more short of breath. Jim doesn’t want any treatment other than for comfort. I promised him I would do anything he wanted. Still so sad this is happening so fast now. A week ago he didn’t even look sick. Now he has to take 2 pain meds at a time. DonnaDonna,is Jim on oxygen at home?86% is a bit low for comfort if not.The cancer may have spread to the lung or it may be malignant cells in the effusion which is basically fluid where it shouldnt be.Sometimes it is present in the abdomen and sometimes in the chest.It can be drained off(tapped),but as it does return its not always done.Is hospice happening for you yet? Donna…I would speak with the physician as soon as possible. You had spoken of hospice and I am wondering whether this has been put in place?

MarionJim was seen at his PCP office this am. His liver is swollen and he has a flueril effusion on the right. He is more short of breath and his pulse ox is only 86. This is much lower than the last time. He didn’t have any other test today. The Dr. said to sit tight and call him if his sob gets worse. I didn’t get to talk with the Dr. Does this mean the CA has spread to the lung? Donna
