I had the brachytherapy at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Mnn. It was part of the liver transplantaton protocol- first chemo and radiation, then about ten days of a break, then the brachytherapy for about a 24 hour period. During that time you are pretty well isolated due to radiation risk. Not real comfortable, but after chemo and the other stuff that you go through one can get through it pretty well.
I cannot speak highly enough of the physicians, nurses and staff at the Mayo- very caring, professional and helpful. I had the liver transplant operation in October, and so far everything is going very well.

If I can provide you with additional information please let me know.

    Best wishes and good luck!

I have a thread started under General Discussion for my experience with radioembolitzation/Brachytherapy. While my results aren’t in yet, it might prove to be a little bit helpful for you as you gather information.

    Heather,

My husband had his Whipple at Duke. We live 3 hours away (Conway, SC) so did chemo and radiation locally but returned to Duke many, many times for follow up care, infections, further surgery, etc. His surgeon was Dr. Doug Tyler. Duke is a wonderful place and very up-to-date in the treatment of bile duct cancer. If you would like any additional info on Duke, please don’t hesitate to ask or to contact me personally. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Elaine

Hello everyone….I’m interested in learning more about brachytherapy..also, has anyone had experience with the following cancer centers?

    Memorial Sloan-Kettering, NY
    Moffitt, Tampa
    KU, in Missouri
    Univ. of VA, Charlottesville
    Duke Univ. Health, Raleigh

Dad is home and we need to get the ball rolling to kick this out of him. I have my background info on the “Introductions” page.

God bless all of you fighting this fight, and those who still may.
