Dad is recovering well from the Whipple. Today is his first day home and he’s feeling a little rough. It’s only been just over a week, though, so I’m sure it’ll take awhile. It’s been quite a rollercoaster ride.
Thank you all so much for your comments and support.

She had 27 lymph nodes taken – 2 came back positive. She has decided against chemo at this time. She feels good and is enjoying her life.November 6, 2010 at 8:29 am #43857katjaMemberRdh,
my dad’s case was exactly the same as yours. He had his whipple (clean margins, 7 nodes with microscopic traces) and entered the bilcap trial to test xeloda as adjuvant therapy. Standard treatment in uk would have been just ‘wait and see’. We are glad he got the chemo on a trial but then who knows whether it’ll work?
It’s been a year since my dad started looking a little yellow and he’s now back to work, and really valuing each day (we all are).
Please feel free to ask any questions. Congratulations to your dad, I hope he is recovering well from the whipple?

So happy for you as this is not the case for so many with cholangiocarcinoma. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you take this journey. Visit with us often and let us know how things are going. Many have said, and I have found it to be true, that this is often a roller coaster ride. Blessings, Susan
November 6, 2010 at 4:48 am #43855lainySpectatorHello RDH and welcome to our wonderful family. I congratulate your Father on coming through the huge Whipple Surgery. My husband had the Whipple 5 years ago at the age of 73. His margins and nodes were clear so not sure about the chemo after a Whipple as he didn’t have it. I am sure you will get more answers and a game plan after seeing the ONC. Where is your Father being treated? I am also sure you will get more replies on this but as you know the Whipple is also not a common surgery. Try to read up on the Whipple as the more information you have the better armed you will be. Wishing your Father a good recovery and please keep us posted.

November 6, 2010 at 4:08 am #4273rdh77MemberHello,
My father (65) was diagnosed with cc in Sept. 10 after presenting with jaundice (among other things.). He had a stent placed, followed by a Whipple procedure a week ago. He had clean margins after the procedure. They removed a small tumor in his bile duct. However, he was told that they found that 7 of the 39 nodes tested came back positive. The surgeon also said that right now, it had not spread to other organs (and he was essentially cancer free), but because it was in the nodes, the liklihood was there that it would spread (likely to the liver.) I’m leaving out a lot of details, I know. Anyone been in this situation where it has been in the nodes, but not spread yet? My parents have an appt. with an Oncologist in a few weeks to discuss chemo etc.
Thanks so much for any info.
