Thanks Cathy and Lainy!
We have been really lucky that no Dr. has thought they were above the mysteries that have rolled our way. I am grateful we have so many opinions.
Re:cyberknife, I will ask again but we were told radiation was off the table previously. I asked for a copy of the MRCP report today but forgot it in the midst of everything going on.
Cathy-I had to laugh at the holidays at Barnes. My dad seems to have a knack for getting a fever about 10pm Saturday nights. As you might know, Barnes ER is a unique experience!!
November 23, 2010 at 1:46 am #44616lainySpectatorWow, are you popular or what??? Got to admire a doctor though who wants other opinions along with his own. I just have 1 thing to toss in. When you see the radiologist, and if the new tumor is under 7cm, you might want to ask him about Cyber Knife. It is non evasive and done in only 3 days time. Perhaps the biopsy is more to determine what kind of tumor it is. I had a tumor removed last year from my intestines and they did a biopsy before the surgery to see what kind of tumor it was. The bright side here is someone among all these pros is going to come up with a plan!

We will keep you in our prayers for a Barnes free thanksgiving. ( I can personally tell you that the holidays wern’t so bad there, in 2009 I spent Valentines, Easter, MothersDay Memorial Day, 4thof July and Labor Day there. Our family joke was if the post office is closed Cathy’s going to Barnes).
Hang in there and thanks for the stock tip!! Lots of prayers-CathyNovember 23, 2010 at 12:51 am #4371highsmithMemberMy dad is eight months post Whipple and has had a bevy of set backs, but we saw the Onc. today in hopes of scheduling the port and start of chemo. Boy, was I wrong!!
Last week, my dad got a blood infection. The specieazation (sp) came back today and he has two different infections, so we did some IV antibiotics and got two new scripts (note to self, buy Walgreens stock)…and nine, yep 9, appointments!!! I think we have now seen every specialist there is, save for an OB!
Even though we were told no radiation would be able to be done earlier this year because of PSC, this onc. is having us see a radiation onc. tomorrow to see if they can do just the spot where the new tumor is (which has doubled in size in about two weeks). Our onc. also wants us to try and do another Ultrasound biopsy, in hopes knowing exactly what is there could provide more exacting treatment. Then, he told us that he is worried about doing any chemo, which makes me wonder why we are doing a biopsy?
To make it really interesting, he wants us to see another oncologist next week for another opinion. We are certainly open to seeing her, but are damn confused tonite. We also are seeing a new Infectious disease guy and have the usual appointments with the two (regular) surgeons next week!
My dad is taking this well and my daughter (5) and sister and her husband and eight month old son arrive tomorrow, so I just have my fingers crossed we can stay out of the hospital until next Monday and enjoy the holiday!!
