Glad to hear things are better. I am a cc survivor due to 2 liver transplants. Any treatment to save our life will have negative effects, but we must focus on the “save”. The last 2 years have been full of bumps but I am AlIVE and cancer free. Diabetes can be a temporary conditon because of transplant and in my case wasn’t. (one less thing to deal with). I will be immuned supressed the rest of my life and take anti-rejection medicine, but no big deal I am ALIVE.
Keep all your options open and keep posting because there is so much “HOPE” here!

MarionI had my MRI today and follow-up with my surgeon. He said that it looks good. He wanted to wait for radiologists to give the final word, but, said he saw nothing that locked out of place. I am Sooooo, happy tonight. Thanks to all for the kind thoughts and words, they helped. Jim Wilde, your story sounds much like mine, here’s hoping for the same type of results!!

Additionally, you might want to be come acquainted with our google search function, top right. Simply enter the word: sleeping and many previous threads will appear. As you will notice, sleep issues are not uncommon for those undergoing chemotherapy and, there is help for you.

MarionWelcome. I too had a resection 4/8/09 followed by six months of Gemzar chemo. I lost ~50% of the liver, gall bladder always goes (doesn’t fit with the new plumbing scheme), and so far, I’m still clean. BTW, don’t knock a resection. A transplant has it’s own set of negatives, like becoming instantly diabetic and having to learn to give yourself insulin shots. My last hospital roommate had a transplant. The worst for him was the lifelong anti-rejection medication. Quite frankly, I considered myself fortunate to have had a resection.
Chemo was the least fun part of the whole deal, but tolerable. The best part of chemo is it usually has an endpoint you can look forward to. I had a rough spot or two during chemo, but it wasn’t that bad, especially 24 hours after an infusion.

JPO, is UW University of Wisconsin? I am from Milwaukee. Well, it sounds like Dr. Park knows what he is doing and with good results. I would tell him about your side effects and see what he can give you to help you through to the end of the chemo. Honestly you are really doing quite well. Please keep us posted as we have a lot of caring people here in our little family that we hate to see growing!
Sorry for not being more specific. I am 52 and was diagnosed 9/2010. 1 tumor on my liver 3.5 cm and operable. They operated 10/14/2010 (UW hospital – Dr. James Park – who is a wonderful surgeon). He found 3 tumors on my liver and removed all – taking 35% of my liver. He also took gall bladder and a few lymph nodes since he was there. All the pathology reports were negative with the exception of tumors on the liver. He had told me in advance that I was not a transplant candidate because of the type of cancer, so resection and chemo were the best options.
Dear JPO, welcome to our wonderful family but sorry you had to find us. I know you don’t feel well butcan you telll us a little more about yourself. What is your diagnosis and where are you being treated? Combine Chemo with waiting for a 6 month MRI news and I would be nervous too but we try to stay positive
or as we say, realistically optimisitc. When you say not feeling good are you nauseous? Weak? No appetite? There are things the Oncologist can order for you to help you get through the chemo. We need to know a little more so that we do not relate the wrong suggestions to you. I look forward to your next post.
