    This was the first I had heard of PDT. The TV programme discussed the cancers that approval has already been given for and the doctor, who is a regular contributor, seemed to feel it was a major breakthrough in the fight against cancer. It was the website that provided details of the trials for BDC. This was the part that really caught my imagination because, as you will know, it is very unusual for specific mention to be made of research into cures for BDC.

    I have to confess that I was so keen to get the info about PDT on this site that I did not take the time to read previous postings so was not aware that it had already been highlighted. The TV programme and the website do talk about cures. It may be that there have been advances made over the last year that point towards a cure for BDC. We can only hope.

    My husband had PDT at University College Hospital in London. The general view is that PDT is not a cure but a way of keeping the bile duct open by zapping cells in the duct. They are hoping to conduct a trial at UCH, perhaps you should ask your doctor if he can get you onto the trial.

    Photodynamic therapy is a great option, but is not a possibility for everyone with cholangio. It only works (as told me by two different Dr’s) for Extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. MD Anderson is also looking for additional funding to support a Clinical trial on cholangiocarcinoma using photodynamic therapy. The foundation is waiting for their people to send us all of the information and we will pass that on when we get it.

    I have just finished watching a morning UK TV magazine programme (Good Mornig) that highlighted this new cancer cure treatment. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a treatment that can destroy cancers when red light activates a light-sensitive drug injected into the tumour. The treatment is non-invasive and appears to have no side effects. PDT is approved to treat skin, head and neck cancers and pre-cancer of the oesophagus but, more excitingly for us, there are currently trials and ongoing research into the treatment of bile duct cancer.     This treatment does not seem to be a load of mumbo jumbo. There are real examples of people who have been cured and the treatement and fundraising efforts are being backed by people like Sir David Frost. I would urge everyone to look at the website. This should help promote awareness of the treatment amongst those who may be able to help.
