She is a wonderful writer and a very accomplished skier. I have become too cautious – seems that the mountains have become steeper.

I was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area and the husband and I were looking for a change in scenery, one which involved better skiing.
So, Portland is where my husband got the best job, so here we are.take care!

Susie…you would be our first metastases to the ovaries (and, we had about 3000 postings on this site.) Rick has to clear the discussion board periodically therefore; not all information is endlessly accessible.
We did however; have numerous reports of suspected ovarian cancer, which later turned out to be unsubstantiated.
My fingers are crossed for a quick and uneventful removal of the suspicious cyst.
Oh, I meant to ask you, how did you end up on the West Coast?

I know of Dr Fung, though not personally. He was the head of our transplant department for a short while when I started and then went to Cleveland clinic. I know he is a fantastic surgeon, so is Bijan if you ever see him. He was also at UPMC when I worked there.

My surgeon, that I love, is from UPMC. His name is Dr. John Fung, did you ever get to work with him ? He trained with Dr. Starzl.
I will pray your ovarian cyst is nothing…voting for team nothing.
LisaDear Pam, I am so glad you got to go to Hawaii. I also wish for the mass is benign, and once your UPMC surgeon reads the report, I hope he will be able to tell you a little more. Once again all good wishes coming your way and you know the rest of this line….please keep us posted.

I am happy to hear you had a nice vacation in Hawaii. That is so great you got to get away with your family. I am very sorry to hear about your ovarian cyst. I will pray that it is benign. It reminds me of our friend Lisa from this site. She had a lump in her breast and it turned out to be benign. I am hoping the same for you. It’s just the waiting and worrying that is the worst. You made me bust out crying when I read your message to Dr. Sonnenday. You are such a sweet, caring person. I’m sure you were such a wonderful nurse. It’s great to see you post on here again. I was getting a little worried about you, but I figured you probably needed a break. This site can get a little heavy at times. I wish you nothing but the best, Susie. Take care and God bless you.

Hi all! It has been a while since I posted because it has been a rough few weeks.
On a good note, I just got back from celebrating Easter on the Big Island of Hawaii with my family. Lots of fun.The bad news is, I have a growing ovarian cyst that is scheduled to be removed in early May. I have had this cyst for 6 months and my oncologist was never concerned with it. I sent my records to my gynecologist who was also not concerned with it at first, but it has been growing and is now up to 6cm. I also had a slightly elevated Ca 125, tumor marker for ovarian cancer, so my gynecologist referred me to gynecology oncology who recommended removal. I originally went to OHSU for a consult but have decided to have the surgery at UPMC. I have only spoken with the UPMC surgeon over the phone and will meet him a few days before surgery. He has not seen my scans yet, only read the reports so he can’t really guess what it is. My gynecologist thought it was an endometrioma. My Ca 125 has now normalized.
The Dr’s have all given me the possibilities of a benign mass, ovarian Ca or recurrent cholangiacarcinoma, so we’ll see. No way of knowing until they take it out. I asked for a PET scan but was told a PET scan is not always accurate in identifying ovarian cancers and either way, based on its size, it should be removed.
Plan is to do an intraoperative biopsy and if it is ovarian cancer, then they proceed with a hysterectomy. If it’s cholangiocarcinoma or benign, then only the ovary gets removed as long as the other organs look cancer free. I am not too concerned about it being ovarian cancer, that just seems too odd, but am obviously very concerned about the possibility of recurrent cholangiocarcinoma.
Also, obviously, not looking forward to my second surgery in one year. Hopefully, it will be laparoscopic but I am worried about my radiated abdomen causing some surgical challenges.I wanted to take a minute and welcome Dr Sonnenday to the site. How awesome of you to take the time to join and read out posts.
A little history on me and my treatment thus far:
I am 33 yrs old. I was diagnosed with intrahepatic CC 1 yr ago after having sudden abdominal pain. I thought it was a gall bladder attack because it happened after a fatty meal. I had a left hepatectomy at UPMC by Dr David Geller. Clear margins and negative lymph nodes, though one margin was close at 2mm. I received adjuvant treatment. 3 cycles of Gem Cis, 6 wks chemo radiation with Xeloda, and 3 more cycles of Gem Cis. I live in Oregon and my oncologist is at Oregon Health and Science University.
I am a nurse and used to work at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s liver floor and then ICU. That’s why I go there for my surgeries.

Please make sure everyone at U of M gives Lauren the best care possible, she is one of the youngest on the board and deserves nothing but the best.Hope everyone is well.
