This video was interesting to me,the bloke in it could almost have been Joel ,my husband in his final weeks.Joel wrote a series of poems and wanted to cook for everyone and wanted to say how he felt to those he loved….but unlike the wife in the video who felt elated I didnt travel so well.I felt that my husband and I were on different parallel journeys and mine was a bit of a nightmare…but…..his attitude and acceptance did help and certainly helped my sons a lot.As a nurse I have observed that those who go on fighting and not accepting death right till the end make life much harder for those that are left Janet

    Dear Julia,

It didn’t upset me that you posted it. I was quite shocked by my reaction. I thought I had toughened up a lot since Lauren was first diagnosed, but sometimes things just blind side me and make me cry. This was one of them. I haven’t cried in a while so I think I was just due. I think it was very powerful and the attitude of Lord Philip Gould was admirable. I pray for you and your dear Susan every day.

    Love, -Pam

    Julia,

I had a very hard time watching this video. I thought it was beautiful, but it really upset me for some reason. I cried and cried through the whole thing and for some time after. I didn’t know I would be so affected. I must’ve had a lot of built up emotions that needed to come out.

I hope this video helps. It’s very powerful and it certainly helped me and my sister:

“As a charity that cares for people at the end of their lives, Marie Curie welcomes open discussions about death and dying.

In this short film, Lord Philip Gould shares his thoughts about approaching death during the final weeks of his life.

Our hope is that, through people like Philip sharing their stories, we can break our fear of facing and accepting death, which will help us continue working towards ensuring that everyone has dignity and the best possible care when the time comes.”
