My husband Dean had his first CT this week after 4 cycles of Gemzar and Xeloda. All the tumors are shrinking!! -his primary site is bile duct but he also has tumors in the liver and gallbladder.. He started his fifth cycle today and his Dr. added Avastin. Our insurance is Cigna, and they approved Avastin on the first request-unlimited doses. Our oncologist added it because we requested it. He feels that patients should stick with the most successful/least side effects treatment. By adding Avastin there are added side effects-I guess it can cause bleeding. Everyone has had such great success with it though, that we’ll try it, for at least these next four cycles. Dean has done great on Gemzar and Xeloda. He is working full time through all of this, and has been tired and has some nausea, but overall doing great. -his weight is holding steady. The only extra suppliments he does are fish oil and lactobacillis, both recommended by a nutritionist that we saw. Dean’s birthday is Thursday. He’ll be 42. This was a great birthday present!
