I have been taking cannibis tincture. It is an oil made from the cannibis leaves. The oil does not have the ingredient that makes you high.
I just started a new round of chemo yesterday & I have no nausea today. I am trying to see if this oil prevents the nausea so didn’t take my anti nausea pills yet.
My chemo is oxaliplatin and xeloda. I have been having sensitivity to cold from the oxaliplatin this morning. Tingling in my fingers & my jaw hurts when I take the 1st bite of something.August 22, 2013 at 6:19 pm #67280marionsModeratorWalt…Thanks for sharing. I strongly believe that Marijuana has a valid place in medicine and that is not only because I live in California. I don’t use it myself but, I know of many patients who benefit greatly from the medicinal properties contained in Cannabis. Cancer patients in particular should be granted any possible options for means of symptom control.

I keep them in the freezer and eat about 1/4 of one the evening after infusion. This also helps with lack of sleep due to the steroid they give me.
December 5, 2012 at 4:32 am #67278pamelaSpectatorHi Nikki,
My daughter, Lauren chews spearmint gum when she is nauseous and drinks ginger ale as well. Compazine usually works if she takes it early in the game. If not, the gum usually helps, but sometimes she just gets sick and then feels better. I agree with Eli in that your Dad needs to take his anti nausea meds combined with the natural ones. I don’t think the natural remedies would work in place of the nausea meds. They would be better used with them if needed.

BUT…
She used it in addition to pills (Zofran, Compazine) not instead of them.
As much as your dad dislikes pills, they may be necessary. Natural remedies alone may be not enough to control chemo nausea.
December 4, 2012 at 8:30 pm #67276nikki4470SpectatorThese are great suggestions! I am going to send them to my dad. I will let you all know if they help at all. Thank you Lainy, Susie and Marion
December 4, 2012 at 8:19 pm #67275marionsModeratorIn addition to what has been mentioned you might also want to consider plain old Ginger Ale.
Accupressure works for some:
Most pharmacies carry wristbands with snaps or buttons. These wristbands are designed to press against pressure points in your wrist.
You can also try to do this by bending your wrist and measure three finger lengths of your forearm. Depending on the size of your finger, you may have to try to find the pressure point. Feel around with light pressure until you find a tender spot. This is the P5 point. The P6 point is about 1 ½ fingers back toward your wrist. You must apply some pressure hard enough to feel it, but not too hard causing pain.
Press on these spots for 1 minute and repeat 2 or 3 times, resting 30 seconds between each application. Please know that results vary and given the severity of nausea caused by chemotherapy, sticking to what works well chemically might be best.

December 4, 2012 at 6:49 pm #67273lainySpectatorNikki, here are a few home remedies for Nausea. Peppermeint tea/candy. Ginger root, peel and cook, strain and add liquid to Ginger Tea. Ginger ale. If nausea persists you will need to call the ONC for a RX. Good luck.
December 4, 2012 at 6:40 pm #7708nikki4470SpectatorMy dad has been experiencing nausea for a good 4 days after his first round of chemo. He was prescribed three different types of nausea medication, but he does not like taking pills. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for natural ways to reduce nausea and increase appetite. Thank you!!
