MelindaNovember 9, 2015 at 4:40 pm #71268lainySpectatorElaine, who is to say anything is short lived! Nobody knows and all I know is some have to be winners, life just seems to work that way. Best of luck and remember that life is for the living!
November 9, 2015 at 3:51 pm #71267esamolytzSpectatorI have CT and MRI scans today and will repeat in January and March. For the next year after that, scans will be done every three months. Hopefully none of these will show recurrence and we will just be able to continue monitoring. I know this joy might be short lived, but it’s pretty sweet for now!

November 9, 2015 at 4:12 am #71264lainySpectatorOH, Elaine, AWESOME news! YIPPEE! Is your ONC suggesting any kind of plan even though he feels you are in remission? Time to be realistically optimistic no reason not to be! I am so very happy for your and love going to sleep after ready such positive news! congratulations!
November 9, 2015 at 3:40 am #71263esamolytzSpectatorHi all. It’s been a long time since my last post. I did one cycle of 5FU after surgery, but it was toxic so we discontinued treatment. I had slight thickening of the peritoneum, so my onc ordered a PET scan for 10/29. I got the results on 11/4 … everything is normal and I am doing great. My labs were mostly normal too, even the tumor markers. Hemoglobin and platelets are still recovering but looking better. Best news ever came in the form of two simple words: complete remission! My onc said we need to remain careful but that everything looks great. Here’s hoping for this to last a long time!
ElaineJune 24, 2015 at 7:08 pm #71262marionsModeratorElaine….walking and moving is important especially for the 1/2 hour post meal ingestion. At times it helps to stand while eating. Also, some foods are more difficult to digest than others. As a whole though, I believe that most biliary surgeries change the digestive process. Burping, excessive gas and bloating are not an uncommon; increased sensitivity to foods high in fats top the list. With time, dear Elaine, things you will know what works best for you. So happy to know that overall you feel very good.

MarionJune 24, 2015 at 6:46 am #71261esamolytzSpectatorThanks Marion. I will check with the doc on Thursday at my next follow up. The PA just recommended I keep moving/walking to keep things moving in my gut but I am hoping there is a simple way to reduce the bloating as I continue healing. Overall though, I am feeling pretty good, so I am happy about that.
ElaineJune 24, 2015 at 2:11 am #71260marionsModeratoresamolytz….. Some physicians automatically prescribe Creatin post resection. Otherwise you may want to purchase over the counter. Gas and digestion (unfortunately) can be annoying, but with time things may just settle in.

MarionJune 24, 2015 at 1:41 am #71259esamolytzSpectatorAny advice in dealing with gas pain and bloating post resection? I look pregnant! It’s very uncomfortable and seems to just be gurgling around without, um, an outlet. My doctor’s PA says to just keep moving. I am having bowel movements but not quite back to normal. Any advice would be appreciated.
June 18, 2015 at 3:21 am #71258marionsModeratorIncredible news, esamolytz. You had surgery, recovering well and the final staging came in as II.

CatherineJune 17, 2015 at 7:49 pm #71256esamolytzSpectatorI neglected to mention that my surgeon now says my disease was stage ii because nodes he thought would be diseased came back clear!
June 17, 2015 at 6:12 pm #71255knfarrowSpectatorCongratulations on your good surgery! I had my surgery at the end of March and am about to start post-surgery chemo. My tumor also did not respond to cisplatin and gemcitibine initially. My oncologist has chosen oxaliplatin and xeloda for my post-surgical regimen. Give me a couple of weeks, and I’ll tell you how it’s going!
