Just being here and listening to me is more than enough. Even though Teddy and Mark aren’t going through exactly the same thing, you have been in the same boat I am in now. That’s better than about anything else I can think of.
Everybody has been so supportive.

Kris, I don’t know much to tell you about what Hubby is going through so all I can do is wish you both the very best. It will probably be good to go back to work. I think it makes you feel life is a little more normal for awhile. Have a great weekend.
Well, it was an interesting and long day.
GI doc really listened to us and our concerns today which was so much better than the last who just came in and said this is what we are going to do then got upset when we just didn’t jump on board.
He would like to do the ERCP but is willing to wait and see if there are any more infections. He says that now because multiple bile ducts come out of the liver into the small intestine that only one of them may actually be narrowed….he’s even pretty sure he knows which one based on some dilation they are seeing on the MRCP. That explains why the liver functions are fluctuating some (they are mostly normal but when he gets an infection they go up some). He thinks but doesn’t promise that they could go in and just use a balloon to open the narrowing up without putting a stent in…..stent would be the last resort since he is such a high risk for infection. Of course the possible side effects would be pushing bacteria into his blood stream when the inject the dye…..hmm sounds like something that would happen to us.
Felt pretty good about it and understand better why it may really be needed and why we would risk increased infection to do this. He did say that they might not even be able to get to the liver since he has had the previous radiation and his guts were such a mess with surgery. This is a really young doc too. He really looks like he’s only about 16….not sure he’s even shaving yet but he answered all our questions and spent the time with us we needed.
Right now it’s watch and wait. Last dose of antibiotics was today and chemo next Friday so if we have an infection it will the end of the month.
So all in all I felt pretty good about it.
Back to work again Monday for both of us. And the youngest son is all settled in at college. WooHoo!

Hi Kris,
That’s great that Mark was able to get back to work this week and glad to hear that it went well, Also, very happy to hear that it lifted his mood as well! Hope that your meeting with the GI guy goes well today and that you get some good news today. Definitely ask all of the questions that you have and if you can, write down the answers that you get so that you remember everything that was said. Please let us know as well how you get on there.

Dear Kris I am so glad work turned out OK. I think it is important to be among people doing something. Glad you are seeing a GI guy tomorrow I am anxious to hear what he has to say. Best of luck on it!
Thank you for all your positive thoughts and prayers this week. I must have worked. He made it four days…..which is awesome and while he was a little bit tired after it, he’s in a much more positive mood.
We see a GI specialist tomorrow as they are still on the hunt for whatever has been causing the sepsis. I think they want to do an ERCP but I am still on the fence about that since his liver functions are all still normal. Surgeon says if there was significant stenosis, those would change. Going to ask lots of questions.KrisV

Congratulations on your good news with both Mark and your son. You all certainly deserve it!!! I’m sure going back to work is a big positive for Mark. I hope he does well with it.

Hi all, I know it’s a small milestone but I am getting to the point where I will celebrate any of them. Mark went back to work today….the first day he has worked since the middle of May. Not sure how long he will make it but he’s there. Round #3 of chemo was Friday and all labs looked good….bili was great and liver function almost normal. Only bad was his white count was up but he’s still on antibiotics from the last round. No fevers this time and we may get to skip the normal week long hospital stay after chemo (I hope so). His boss thankfully understands how tired and weak he still is so they have him working in the office rather than production. Not sure he will like that.
Also our son with thyroid cancer had his full-body scan last week and NO residual cancer. He got a very small dose of radioactive iodine and then a scan this week. We take him to college on Saturday and he won’t have to follow up until Christmas Break.
