Hi Pat,
I was just having a joke and pulling your leg with my stripping comment! Sometimes my sense of humour doesn’t come across too well sometimes so my apols to you all! I can so imagine you all comparing scars and wounds and yes, no doubt it was indeed a special moment for you all. It does sound like a varied collection of scars and from what you say, many like car emblems!
Every year I sooooo want to be there but the issue right now and every is my mum and her care. I would need to get her into a care home for me to come and that is quite tough to arrange but can be done so if a home can be found for her far enough in advance. But the other problem is that I have found out that due to my mum being on oxygen 24/7 care homes will not take her as they are not insured to cover people with oxygen needs. So that means that she would have to go into a nursing home for a respite break for me and that is hard to arrange for a respite break. There are not a lot of them here so places in them are very hard to get and even harder to get someone in short term so that a carer can get a break.
She does not need nursing care, but the oxygen 24/7 means she would have to be in a nursing home and not a care home which means me getting a break is a nightmare to sort out.
However, I will most definitely definitely get there when I can and fingers crossed it will be next year. Thanks for everything that you say Pat and I too am looking forward to actually meeting you and everyone else as well when I get over your way.

Oh Gavin, it wasn’t like that, we showed our tummies and it was a fun moment, some are a Mercedes Benz tri star and some are like a lexus emblem or a L that is a 45 degree angle, and some are a horizontal 45 so there was something to learn there regarding scars and how they heal. I will say we all had fun and besides the pool or the beach, we generally don’t expose our midsections but it was a rare moment where we were amongst our own. I wish you could make it some year as it is fun meeting people we have only known on the internet and we read your posts sometimes daily, it would be fun to meet you and hear your voice and everything. The people, the patients and caretakers are all wonderful, caring, beautiful selfless people, and we realized one thing….ONLY GOOD PEOPLE GET CHOLANGIOCARCINOMA ….If I can say one thing I could say to sum up the most important thing I came away with. I hope you can be with us next year and experience the best community of people there is in the flesh (take that however you want)Â hope to see you next year, Pat

Thanks loads for the update on the meeting, sounds like you all had a blast in so many many ways! Stripping too…..what on earth was going on there!!!! Ha! Can’t wait to see all of the photos of everyone from the meeting, I love seeing that every year! It must have been great for everyone to meet one another, connect with each other and share stories and experiences as well.
I guess that from this meeting like the other ones there will be something put up on the website, a video or photo montage as it were of the meeting as a whole and I can’t wait to see that as always. Thanks for attending Pat and for letting us know how it went! Sounds like you had a great time.

Hi everyone, I just returned home from the annual conference and there were so many great things to learn and many incredible people. I wish the Guiness world record people were there as I don’t believe there were ever, in the history of the world, this many cholangiocarcinoma survivors in one location. The second night in the patient lounge, I saw Matt Rieddy having someone take a photo of his famous ‘opened up three times’ scar. The next thing you know, there are shirts flying up, and suddenly there was perhaps ten of us displaying our war wounds and a photo of ten resection scars lined up together for a classic Kodak moment. There were two or three phones taking photos and I hope someone will either text me one or post it here . I would like to thank the foundation staff for the huge effort, the hard work and preparation for this event that mean so much to so many from everywhere. We had an amazing time, and I hope the live cast touched more patients worldwide with the latest information available for treating this disease. I had a great time and I hope everyone will get to see more photos as there was a photographer there for the whole event. Thank you all, Pat
