Please accept my condolences for the loss of your husband.  I am sorry you had to find our community, but please know there are many resources here and on the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation website that I hope will be helpful for you in understanding this illness. Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare and not fully figured out cancer, so often it is not clear why it develops in patients.

Diabetes itself may be a risk factor for cholangiocarcinoma.  We have heard from many patients on the discussion board who had diabetes and then were diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma.  There are studies posted here discussing the relationship between diabetes and risk of cholangiocarcinoma.  Here are two examples:
