MarionDecember 1, 2015 at 2:10 am #90607scott-sibleyMemberI was actually thinking of going back to work last week!! I work 12 hr shift work at Michelin here in Waterville. I guess that’s out of the question. I think my diet is solid, so more rest it is, and walking. No more hi impact exercise for a bit.
December 1, 2015 at 1:04 am #90606middlesister1ModeratorScott, although you are already a superman to us, chemo is tough and even having days where getting out of PJs was too hard was not unheard of for my Mom. The first cycle was the worst and we ended up in the ER for dehydration. Eating and exercise is all great, but don’t push too hard. Now we look back on the chemo times and say they were lousy but well worth it. I am amazed when I read of those who are fully functional on chemo (especially gem/cis) . Take care of yourself and let the drugs go to work.

November 30, 2015 at 9:11 pm #90604marionsModeratorScott……We have many reports on low white blood cell count (leukopenia) causing a delay of treatments. Perhaps it has already been explained to you, but just in case:
Physicians recommend a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables.
Avoid injury including minor cuts and scrapes, be careful when shaving and if so needed, switch over to an electric razor.Avoid unnecessary exposure to germs when you can. Wash your hands frequently or use a liquid hand sanitizer. Avoid people who are sick and stay away from crowds. Have someone else clean the litter box, bird cage or fish tank. Don’t eat raw meat or eggs.
Rest. If you feel tired, stop and rest. Your body is working hard to fight the cancer cells and heal the healthy cells damaged by your treatment. Don’t feel guilty about taking time for yourself and asking others to help you. Plan your most important activities for the time of day when you feel most energetic.
Enjoy your chemo-break.

November 29, 2015 at 3:28 am #90600mbachiniModeratorScott,
I think that is fantastic that she asked you to present to others. I am convinced that your winning attitude will do wonders for uplifting and educating others on how to ride the train…..Keep up the good work, and sending good thoughts for great blood work on Monday.

November 26, 2015 at 3:27 pm #90599lainySpectatorNice, Scott. What a great compliment! It does make someone feel good to know that how they attack a most serious situation needs to be shared with others to give them hope and for them to feel mentally better. I had a total colectomy the end of April and the Surgeon asked me if I would mind if newbies wanted to call me about the surgery. I felt so good about that just like I do here meeting all of you! I know everyone cannot be like that but for me, humor gets me everywhere.
Good luck on Monday, just a few days away!November 26, 2015 at 2:42 pm #90598scott-sibleyMemberNo treatment for me today….my white cell count was just a bit low. That’s ok because we are firing it up Monday morning.
My nurse invited me to the cancer retreat this weekend. She thinks my attitude, perspective and how I micromanage my daily kill cancer regiment would be beneficial to the others there. She wants me to consider being a presenter if I feel like it. These are the things that make a guy feel pretty good. I’m glad I will get the opportunity to help others. I can’t make it this weekend, but that gives me a month to prepare for next month.Go Team
November 25, 2015 at 9:09 pm #90597lainySpectatorScott, your train will roll because you are the Little Engine That Could! First you chugged, ” I think I can, I think I can!” That turned in to “I knew I could, I knew I could!”
November 25, 2015 at 8:15 pm #90596middlesister1ModeratorFingers are crossed for you!
November 25, 2015 at 6:28 pm #90595scott-sibleyMemberI just got a call from the hospital that my cell counts are a bit low…..just under the level they need to be to get my treatment tomorrow. I need to get them up by tomorrow morning. I need this train to keep rolling.
November 25, 2015 at 1:25 am #90594marionsModeratorScott……that’s pretty exciting news. Sounds like a great response. Thanksgiving or not, great time to celebrate. Count me in.
