Love the humor Jen. I work for a police dept. and many times, very sad things happen that would ordinarily make it very difficult for the officers to deal with. They often joke about things at the office, to eleviate their stress, and later I hear the stories about how it did make it better for them to go home to their families. Laughter is the best medicine, right?

Thanks for your stories. All my best for you and your Dad with his next appt.

    Jen,
I like your Dad’s brand of humor – I think I could enjoy hanging out with him. And I am thrilled for your Dad and your family that he is able to participate in your daughter’s first birthday – yet another family milestone. For years, I found myself marking progress through various family milestones.

Praying now for a really good next scan for your Dad…

Thanks for the giggle, Jen. Laughter helps make the cloudy days a bit more tolerable and it is good for the soul. Keep it coming.
    Best wishes,

Hi Jen, your dad sounds wonderful and his sense of humor reminds me so much of Teddy. That’s just what I mean when I write about this being a ‘precious moments’ time. He told his sister he loved her and would take a bullet for her because who cares now. He wanted a new cell phone then said who cares I will only need long distance.
Have a wonderful time Sunday with your daughter’s first Birthday! I heard you were enrolling her in college!

    Jen,
I thinnk your dad and I share a sense of humor. I love it. When I first got sick in Glasgow, there was no hepto-biliary ward at the hospital I was first in…so they stuck me with the breast cancer patients. The hospital was in an old Victorian building and had been added onto in such a hodge podge way it was easy to get lost. My roommates were the most AMAZING 3 women…one in her 80s, and two in their 60s. We all had a wacky sense of humor. When I went out to make a call in private, I got lost and could only find my way back by following the sounds of laughter. Laughter truly is the best medicine.

Just wanted to share a few funny stories regarding Dad and the cancer. My family gets through tough times by trying to enjoy every minute we have, which includes laughing a lot. I certainly have my moments, but he brightens my mood with his ridiculous jokes a lot. I hope his sense of humour doesn’t offend anyone, but I know quite a few people on here will get a giggle out of it.

A few weeks ago he went for his appointment with the oncologist. The nurse asked him how things were going and he replied with “well, I don’t think the doctor is giving me the good stuff (in regards to chemo). The nurse looked a bit confused and said that maybe he should talk to her about it. Dad responded with “yeah, it can’t be the good stuff – I have to go get my hair cut again”! Took her a few seconds to realize he was kidding about the fact that he hasn’t lost his hair… he’d rather save the money then have to get it cut again!

He has basically finished planning his funeral, and when choosing a plot, he first asked the man working there if he could get it heated, since he doesn’t like being cold, and then asked him if he knew how the “neighbours” are… the guy responded with “actually, they seem pretty good – very quiet”. Ha ha ha…

Hope you are all having a good day. My daughter turns one on Sunday, and we are thrilled that Dad is here to share the milestone with us. He is doing well, seems positive and feeling relatively okay, and is keeping his weight steady at 134 pounds, which we are happy about. One more round of chemo and then a “break” at which point they will do another scan to see how things have progressed, and make a plan for whatever will come next… thinking and praying for you all.

    Jen
