Thank you all for your comments. Lisa, you are absolutely right. We do plan to treat it like a chronic illness and do whatever is necessary to maintain his health for as long as we can. Fortunately he is tolerating chemo pretty well and is still working, exercising, and enjoying life. My husband is the most upbeat, optimistic person I have ever known and I think his attitude is helping him stay strong.

I have had two liver resections, several types of chemo and steriotactic radiation twice. Don’t give up, get another opinion. I just treat it like a chronic illness.

I am sorry to hear that your husband’s cancer returned. I can’t offer much in the way of advice because my Dad was diagnosed at extensive metastasis. It sounds to me that you have not exhausted all options yet, so that is very positive. A second opinion may be beneficial as you weigh the different options. Keeping you and your husband in my thoughts and prayers.

Missing ULinda, please keep in mind that you can get other opinions. Perhaps with another opinion the 2 ONCs can confer and come up with a good chemo cocktail. Wishing you the best, stay strong!
My husband had a resection in November 2011 followed by several months of radiation and chemo but the cancer returned in September 2012. He is now on chemo but we are determined to explore all options so today we met with the radiologist to see if there was anything else he could do. He said the portion of the liver he radiated is cancer-free. However, there are tumors throughout the rest of the liver and there is nothing he can do under when the disease is so diffuse. He said the CT scan also shows some very small masses in the lung and, although these did not light up on the PET, he thinks they may be small metastases. He said chemo is our only treatment option at this point. I really wasn’t expecting much from this consultation but it’s always disappoining to hear that a doctor can’t help.
