Fortunately she slept very well yesterday; 10 hours non-stop. In the morning her skin looked much better, her eyes had more life, her mind was clearer, her swollen abdomen was smaller. When I left her, though, she was behaving again with this strange akathisia going to shops, going for a walk, spending energy, etc. We should find the cause for this akathisia. It might be as a result of the medication.

Jose…salt increases the buildup of fluids, Sophie suffered from severe ascities. Her physicial condition did not allow for chemotherapy.

Thank you… another thing is: could you please explain what do you mean with “discontinued her salt intake”? If she did not take chemo, how did you control the growth of tumors?

Jose…As far as I remember due to numerous reasons Sophie did not use chemotherapy for treatment.

Very very good post Marion. We should share information about this. This is exactly our point. Even if this is palliative we would like to extend her live in the best quality as long as possible. I like your strategie. I am sharing your post with the rest of the team.

Jose……it might be best to start talking about “living” rather than focusing on the oppositive. Our Sophie was terminal for a long time, underwent regular paracentesis, discontinued her salt intake and “lived” for many months in fact, I believe for another 1 1/2 years. A hospital visit, for possibly only a short time may allow for the opportunity to make your sister stronger, regulate her medications so that she can relax and still find some pleasure in the world around her. She deserves to feel as good as can be and that can be accomplished within the right settings and the correct medical attention.

    Hugs,
    Marion

I think option B which is what we already have: a doctor coming every day, etc. She is terrified of hospitals. However I think a hospital is good at this stage, not because of hospice treatment but because she needs a neurological checking, paracentesis and better sedatives so she can have a good rest, at least for a couple of days. But its she who is against it, strongly. I am afraid it will be unavoidable to go shortly.

Jose…..Is hospice in a facility or, will your sister be tended to at home with visiting hospice personnel?

Doctor visites us every day in the morning, check her vital signals and monitores her treatment of medicines etc. She is checking if Carmen has a hypotiroides problem which, according to her, might explain this odd behaviour. She is awaiting analysis from blood test and things like that. Since tomorrow is bank holiday here, results will be on Monday and she is suggesting that my sister might be hospitalized on Monday. However, having said that I have to add that we are split into two groups. Palliative doctor, along with my elder sister and others think that the best for her is a hospice as soon as possible. But my sister, my bro in law, my brother and me think that we have to respect my sister desires of living as much as she can, no matter the cost so there is uncertainty about what to do next.
