    Hi Gavin,

Thanks for telling me about that– it sounds like it really helped your dad a lot. I don’t have any personal experience with Reiki, but I will definitely add it to the list of topics.

And if anyone else has tried Reiki, I hope you’ll share your experiences with me.

    Hi Kristin,

Thank you very much for this, I look forward to reading your section once you have written it.

My dad used to get Reiki massages every week at his day care centre and he absolutely loved them! Now he was as about as sceptical as you could possibly be about this when it was first suggested to him by his Macmillan nurse. He was having real problems when it came to sleeping and relaxing in general and this was suggested to him as something that might help. So he tried it with an open mind as he was willing to try anything if it would help.

Well the first time he tried it he did so at home. The volunteer who did the reiki from the day care centre came to visit dad at home so that he would be relaxed and in his environment. He sat in his favourite chair and I left the room to give them some privacy. 10 minutes into the treatment, the woman doing the massage came through and said that dad was snoring his head off and was soundly asleep! So that was that. From then on, dad got a massage everytime that he could when he went to the day care centre and he said they worked wonders for him.

We were told that this Reiki would not help dad with his CC or anything like that, but that it might help him relax and sleep etc. And it certainly did that! I don’t know if this is the sort of thing that you are looking for or not, but it worked for my dad.

Thank you and my best wishes to you,

    Hello all,

I’m in the process of writing a new section for the website about alternative and complementary treatments. I’m writing about things like acupuncture, meditation, qigong, herbs, etc., giving a basic description, simple things you can try, and links and book titles for more information.

If you have had a good experience with an alternative approach, I would be very glad to hear about it. Also if there’s some area you really think I should cover, please let me know. You can post here or contact me via my email link.

Thanks so much for your help!
