October 19, 2009 at 7:40 pm #27996pat_los_gatosSpectatorMary was told those wonderful words at the end of September “in remission.”
A quick history. Our specialists at our local hospital suspected CC at the end of March 2009 and referred her to Stanford. Multiple ERCP procedures at both hospitals were inconclusive but they did place stents to minimize pain. Stanford confirmed CC from the path reports after a gall bladder laparoscopy at the end of April performed because of a distended gall bladder. Stanford removed 80% of her liver in May but the path report did not declare clean (negative) margins. Therefore, they blasted her with daily radiation and daily oral chemo capecitabine (Xeloda

April 8, 2009 at 12:17 pm #27993marylloydSpectatorThanks everyone. I just wish they could figure out why some treatments work for some and not others. Someday, someone has to figure this all out. We just have to hang in there long enough for that cure that’s around the corner!! There really have been improvements in treatment and more options available in just the three years we’ve been dealing with this, so who knows what the future will bring. Have a great day everyone-I hope you have sunshine where all of you are-my daffodils are frozen under an inch of snow!! Mary
April 8, 2009 at 10:48 am #27992roma35MemberAwesome!! It is so great to hear a good story. It just proves every situation with this cancer is different and statistics are just a bunch of numbers, and should always be taken with a grain of salt. Look forward to many more good reports.
April 8, 2009 at 9:26 am #27991devoncatSpectatorMary,
Your news is tonic to the soul. I am so happy for you and your husband…and it just goes to show that sometimes you need to NOT listen to your doctor. We dont have expiration dates as your Tom has proved. May the good news continue…Kris

April 7, 2009 at 12:57 pm #2190marylloydSpectatorTom went for his three month check-up and for the report of his 6 month MRI yesterday. Everything remains the same. Nothing but radiational scarring on the MRI.The Docs are pretty amazed. One actually said after his unsuccessful resection he figured Tom would only have a year at the most to live. In June it will be three years. We are blessed.. Mary
