Dear Bob, if you go to our search engine at the top and type in acites, you will get a ton of posts on the subject. I am so sorry to hear Sheila is still having this problem. I must say though that when a Doctor does not know what else to do it is definitely time for another opinion! Where is she being treated? Is she still having a lot of pain?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any information about ascites ever going away after they set in. I have posted before about Sheila having fluid retention in her abdomen and in her legs. She was prescribed direurtics and also has had two paracentesis procedures to drain fluids. It just keeps coming back. My questions are: What causes this fluid to buildup? Is it from the cancer or the chemo effects? Sheila’s liver enzymes are good and she has no bile problems, so why the fluid buildup? She hasn’t been doing any chemo since this has started….should she keep trying to do chemo? It seems like the Taxol cycles started about 5 months ago and then this fluid retention began. She only has had one chemo in the last 2 months. Is this an end stage symptom or can she continue on with another try with another chemo? Anyone have any ideas for other types of chemo? She has been through Gem/Cisplatin, Xeloda, and Taxol. Just hoping for some new ideas and answers….doesn’t seem like the oncologist here has any direction any more. THanks, Bob
