Hi,
I try to find a easier version for all of us to understand the Nov. 4,2011 ASCO announcement of their goal for the future cancer research in the next 10 years.
here in the link.
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/752949
if it doesn’t work, just go to medscape.com;click clinical trial on the top bar in the middle, then look for in the box “ASCO Unveils New Vision for Transforming Cancer Research”.
In short,
1.Expanding health information technology to become more patient and researcher friendly in the next 3-5 years; instead of paper , charts and separate computer records, it will be centralized. when go for a 2nd opinion in different institutions, patients do not need to bring records from separated sources to see the doctors;instead just bring your medical card. We are behind other countries on this front.
2. ASCO will focus on targeted therapies that is driven by the understanding of cancer biology and the advent of new technologies; will coordinate different drug companies as well as researchers to combine their efforts to produce faster, better and more effective in the development of new drugs and treatments;will coordinate FDA,National Cancer Institute and others to harmonize their regulations for faster approval of treatments plan and risk aversion for the patients who experienced unwanted side effects.
God bless.
