Rita……when using the google search using: “abstract, avastin, cholangiocarcinoma” you will be able to pull up several abstracts concerning the use of Avastin in combination with other chemotherapies. Also, our search function is useful in pulling up prior postings in re: to Avastin. There is some controversy regarding the long term usefulness of Avastin, which may or may not be the reasons for a possible denial of this drug. By reading through previous threads on this site you will notice for some people not receiving approval from their insurance company wheras others have not experienced any problems at all. Either way, there are plenty of studies proven the efficiacy of Avastin and you should not have any problems presenting these to the physician treating your brother in law. Others may have more tips and hints in re: to fighting the insurance company for approval. Good luck to you. Sending my best wishes to your brother in law.

Hello, I am writing for my brother n law. He is currently getting gencitabine and oxiplatin for chemo and his next cycle we anticipated avastin to be added to his regimen. His oncologist doesn’t seem to promising getting avastin approved by bc/bs insurance company he keeps referring to having evidence of 3 proven studies and the problem he says is that there are not enough cases of cc to guarentee approval. Does anyone have any suggestions I want to present some solid fingings to this doctor so I can motivate him to fight for insurance approval.
    Thank you
    Rita
