I am under palative care now and it is great. I am still getting treatments, but they are putting my comfort first. It is a nice change.
I am not sure about brain metastasies so I can only offer my best wishes.

November 19, 2010 at 3:28 pm #44458jennifersMemberI’m so very sorry to hear about your Mom’s condition. Palliative is the best place for her – they will ensure that she is comfortable, which is so important. I hope you can create many more memories with her and wish all the best with the radiation treatments… I’m sorry for what you are all going through right now.
My thoughts and prayers are going out to you and your family today…

November 19, 2010 at 8:19 am #44457andieSpectatorDear DD,
I’m so sorry to hear the news about your mom. If they have offered radiation theraphy they must think there is a chance of keeping the brain mets under control.
How is your Mom in herself? Is she in pain, jaundiced, confused etc?
As for pallative care, that is what my Dad recieves, at the moment this just involves the DN coming to the house on a Monday to check his BP, temp and external drain. When and if the time comes they will sort out pain relief etc.
I understand this must be a very hard time for you, as the unknown is often worse than the diagnosis. This CC journey is certainly a rollercoaster ride.
I would write your questions down and make an appointment with your Moms doctor/specialist, so you have a clearer picture on what is happening and why they plan to treat with radiation etc.
Keep strong.
Hugs
Andrea

MarionNovember 19, 2010 at 2:24 am #44455lainySpectatorDearest Daughter, we are so very sorry about the turn of events for your Mother. Not sure that we have had anyone on our Board who had Mets to the brain. My heart is so sad for you. The best you can do is to just be by your Mother’s side like you have and give her all the love you can and even make some happy Memories. Our prayers go out to your family.
November 19, 2010 at 12:34 am #4352devastateddaughterSpectatorHi everyone,
It’s been a while, but we’ve been in and out of the hospital the past 2 months and my mom has been there now for the past 3 and a half weeks.Today the doctor told us that the cancer has metastasized to her brain
I am devastated, completely devastated. He said that they will do radiation therapy but plans to bring her to the palliative care floor at the hospital. What does this mean? Once the cancer spreads to the brain is it game over? Is there hope? Can the radiation therapy help eliminate the cancer from the brain or is it palliative radiation?
I am lost for words and feel that my worst nightmare has come true. I am so sad, I cannot even explain how empty I feel inside.
Thanks for listening and for all your help!
