Thank you Marion, I knew Rick had posted before but I couldn’t find it! I will take the info with me today when I meet with Dads Doctor.
Thanks Jemima, I am so glad your Moms chemo is going well, hopefully she will not have any stent problems, my Dad just seems to be unlucky with them. I have contacted Dr Gaya Re: Cyberknife. He did mention before that he would like Chemo to be given first but I have explained that Dad doesn’t seem to be able to get to that stage. There is no limit for the bilirubin level with Cyberknife, so we may have to go down that route. The only problem is the price as we would have to go private. We will see what today brings then have to decide as Dad has gone since February with no treatment.
God Bless you too Bob
Best wishes to all

Also, enzymes may help with digestion, change of diet (reducing fats) and a regular bowel movement might be helpful. Stool softeners before each meal have been recommended by others. You might want to discuss this with the physician at the upcoming visit.
All my best wishes,

Sorry can’t really help on the bile question but I am so sorry to hear that your Dad’s chemo hasn’t gone ahead. I really feel for you all. I hope that they manage to find out why his bilirubin levels have gone back up.
My mum had her gallbladder out about 40 years ago and no-one mentioned this affecting the bile. Her current stent is now 3 months ‘old’ and I am just dreading what will happen to her when it starts blocking. The chemo is not affecting her too badly at present but as we all know things can change so quickly.
I hope that they manage to sort out your Dad’s stent tomorrow if that is the problem and that he gets his chemo soon.
best wishes

I don’t know the answer to the question. However, there are a couple of medications which are effective at thinning bile which apparently are natural and have no side effects. I don’t know the names but I was just prescribed one which I will pick up today.God Bless!
bobSeptember 2, 2010 at 3:45 pm #3957andieSpectatorMy Dad’s chemo has been cancelled yet again due to his bilirubin rising. It was 68 2 weeks ago and was 90 yesterday. We are going to the Liver hospital tomorrow. I suppose they will either clean out his metal stent or add another one. It has been exactly 8 weeks, the same amount of time it took last time to start causing problems.
I phoned the Clinical Nurse today and she said Dad may have an infection in the ducts which can be treated with antibiotics, but Dad has no fever or chills, so I don’t think this is the case. Though I hope it is as he had a lot of problems during his last stent replacement.
My Dads gallbladder is almost non existant, they asked him if he’d had it removed at the beginning when his problems started in February, as they couldn’t see it on any scans. They were originally going to remove what bit of gallbladder was left until they diagnosed CC and transferred Dad to another hospital. This hasn’t been mentioned since and I was wondering if lack of gallbladder makes bile thicker, therefore clogging stents more quickly?
Thanks for reading
