    Dianne,

A blood clot is what led to mom’s diagnosis. This also happened with my grandmother when she was diagnosed with cancer. Apparently blood clots are common when someone has cancer.

My mom’s blood clot was in her spleen, and was very painful. She was and still is on blood thinner injections (I’m not sure what the name of the drug is) she has to give herself one needle daily. The blood clot is now broken up but she is still on the injections as a preventive measure.

    Marion,

Thanks for the link, a very interesting piece. My mum had blood clots and was rushed to hospital on New Years day 2008 because of them and spent the next 6 months on Warferin.

    Thanks again,

    Gavin

    Hi Dianne,

Not sure about the how & why, but there is a definate connection. When Jim was being treated he began to develop blood clots that keep multiplying even when on the blood thinners. This is when they started to suspect cancer. We were told that uncontrollable blood clots is a sign of cancer somewhere in the body. Jim never was able to be treated with chemo/radiation as he was too compromised by the time it was found and never regained enough strength to tolerate treatment, so I am not sure about taking the blood thinners along with treatment. That is something you should talk to his oncologist about.

    Hi all,

I hope that this finds everyone doing ok today…

My Dad had and dealt with a PE (Pulmonary Embolism) back in August of 2009, what we and the Dr’s. believe was possibly caused by the CC. Dad went through all the injections and then warfarin therapy for almost 4 months and then the CC showed up. So they took him off warfarin to do the ERCP’s and hasn’t been off it since January.

Has anyone else had this happen to them and know what this means, how the cancer causes it?

Also, can you take Coumadin/Warfarin while on chemo/radiation.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Dianne
