The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation is pleased to announce a new research partnership called the Cancer Cell Line Project with Pattern.org and the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard. Cholangiocarcinoma patients who are undergoing a biopsy or surgery will have the opportunity to donate fresh (not frozen) tissue that will be used to study of the cause of this rare cancer and how best to target it for treatment. There is no charge to the patient and scientists worldwide will be able to access what the Broad has discovered and use this platform to accelerate the pace of research discovery.
While the Broad Institute will conduct the research, Pattern.org will be the organization that collects the data and handles the logistical coordination with each patient’s hospital to get the tissue to the Broad.
Curious to know more about this rare cancer initiative and its significance? Check out this video made by the National Hockey League Players Association. In 2013, NHL player Dominic Moore lost his wife Katie to a rare cancer and now uses his celebrity to raise funds for rare cancer research. In this video, Moore takes you on a tour of the research facility at the Broad and talks to the team working on this important project. (Please note that the “kit” mentioned in the video is not necessary. Pattern.org will take care of everything once they have your consent to participate.)
If you have an upcoming biopsy or surgery and would like to participate, or have questions about this important research initiative, please contact Barbara Van Hare at barbara@pattern.org or 816-868-6352.
THANK YOU for taking an active part in research and bringing us another step closer to a cure!
