Thanks Susan…..Barbara is planning on a walk in Boston and possibly we can see a walk develop in Chicago with Patty, Barbara, and Stella. Also Lesley is talking of a dog walk in the S.F. Bay Area. We will lend support to anyone planning an event of any sort. There is a link dedicated to this on our site, top, get involved.
Having said that I strongly believe in supporting any type of cancer fundraisers. Anything to raise awareness to cancer in my opinion is one way of supporting a worthwhile cause. I applaud all of you for taking these steps.
    All my love,
    Marion

Thank you all so much. Yes, Marion, I think it would be so awesome if we could have CC sponsored walk. It would raise money for the Foundation, give people an opportunity to get together, increase awareness, provide an avenue for education, and inspire so many. I am in favor of it. Let me know how I can help.

Gavin – You would have loved the bagpipes. It was hauntingly beautiful. (My family name is MacGregor.)

Susan, How wonderful that your daughter’s company dedicated their walk to Randy. We had a similar event here yesterday ( and in many towns and cities across Canada ). We had our annual “Relay for Life” for the Canadian Cancer Society in our small town of 8000 yesterday. We raised $59,000.00!!! It was a wonderful upbeat event with music and activities. There was a survivors lap to start things off (Doug chose not to go down in the morning). In the evening the walk was lit with luminaries in memory of and in honour of those with cancer. Doug walked along and found his luminary from me and we stayed for the closing speeches. So proud of our small town and so proud of my husband. :) Hugs. Nancy

Thank you so much for sharing this with us Susan. It sounds like you had a great day on your walk. I like the part also about the bagpiper, but I guess that I am biased when it come to the pipes!

And Marion, I think that us doing a walk if we can is a great idea if it could be done.

Susan….what an inspiring recollection of the awesome walk in honor of loved ones. Thank you for sharing this.
We are hoping to follow the example of the American Cancer Society in establishing walks nationwide in honor of our patients too.
My thought is to include all patients including those who are with us.
    What do you think?

Sus, what more can I say? We already ‘talked’ today but you didn’t tell me about this wonderful Walk. What an honor for Randy. And I bet your daughter was just beaming. I am so very proud of YOU!

I was so encouraged to participate in a cancer relay walk for the American Cancer Society (I wish it had been the CC Foundation), but it is an annual event through my daughter’s company and this year her company walked in honor of my husband, Randy Little, as well as their own loved ones. It was so awesome to spend an entire day with community organizations walking for charity to honor cancer survivors and those who did not survive. At the end of the evening, a lone bagpiper played Amazing Grace as walkers followed him in silence to honor all those represented. It was dark and the luminarias were the only light with the haunting sounds of the bagpipe. As they walked, 641 names were read of those being remembered – my husband’s name was the last one read and it was a very awesome (and sad) moment. I was struck by the courage and honor of those who have suffered and what we have learned in the process. Blessings go out to all those fighting cancer, and those that are fighting with them. Keep fighting. Keep counting your blessings. Keep making memories to be cherished.
