    Hi Sophie,
My husbad has an MRI every three months. I don’t know why but they feel it picks up changes better I guess. When he went to Pittsburgh 18 months ago they did a cat scan. I’d almost like to have him go there again and get scanned just to make sure OSU isn’t missing anything. Mary

Kris…..most likely they are using a scan which can capture a 3D image of the area (generally, an organ) quickly and with reduced x-ray exposure.

Thank you Carol, Jeff. Lainy and Devoncat

I shall insist, “Dr. I have it upon extreme authority that you must give me a CAT scan every 3 months or else.”

    Prayers for all,
    Sophie

Hi Sophie, Charlie is on IV oxaliplatin and oral Xeloda. He has a CT scan every 6 weeks now. The IV chemo is given every 21 days. I like this better than every 3 months for him because we’re trying to figure out if this chemo regimen is effective. So far, last CT showed tiny shrinkage in 1 tumor and stability in the rest, but the chemo itself is taking such a toll on him. Lots of big decisions need to be made this next CT. Keep on taking even if tumors are stable? Let Charlie have a break from all this? Hard questions we all have to face. Generally the scans every 3 months is a good rule to go by. Take care of yourself.

    Hi Sophie,
I agree with Hris and Lainy onthe every three months and once a year MRI. I also feel that a chemo regimen for three months is suffucient time to know if it is holding things stable or reducing .If not I would push to try something else. My opinion is there is no sense in subjecying your body and wearing it iut if something is not working. Some oncoligist like to push it to the limit until it has really accumulated to highand all you get is more side effects but no efficacy in my opinion.

    Bless Ya girl,
    Jeff G.

Hi Sophie! So do all these pictures mean you are a movie star? Since Teddy’s Whipple he has had a scan every 3 months and an MRI once a year. He saw the ONC every 3 months and just before each visit total LAB work. Not sure what the regime will be when this radiation is over. Hopefully it will be successful and we will return to the natural order of things!

I get scanned about every 3 months. I usually get MRI of the liver area, but now that there is something they want to look at in the pelvic region, they did a CT. Now who knows why, it maybe because that was the machine available, but it could be that different scans are better at looking at solid organs like the liver and others are better at looking other organs.

    Hi Friends,

Now that I am once again starting chemo, what is your experience as to how often a CAT Scan or MRI should be scheduled to see if the chemo is working?

    Thanks,
    Prayers for all,
    Sophie
