Many thanks – I’ve never heard of a chemo pump before!! My husband is alos not eligible for a resection so this is really encouraging to learn of this treatment. We have an appointment wiht Dr. Abou Allfa – he’s supposed to be good on bile duct cancers.
Thanks again to all of you for the support.
May 12, 2009 at 2:02 pm #28373dnicetryMemberHello, I had an appointment at Sloan Kettering Rockefeller Clinic with Dr. Yuman Fong last month. Dr. Fong is a surgical Oncologist. My tumors are so diffuse and resection is not an option. However, June 1st I have and appointment with Dr. Nancy Kemeny, a medical Oncologist, to determine if I am a candidate for an implantable liver chemo pump. The people I met have been very helpful and friendly.

My husband Ken was treated by Dr Karyn Goodman at Stanford and she has since moved to Sloan Kettering. She is a radiation oncologist- very nice lady with a great bedside manner. I would recommend her to everyone.Best of luck for your family.

May 4, 2009 at 2:43 pm #28364tessMemberHi Danielle, a move to the big apple from Arizona? …. change is good! When we were seeking out second opinions for my Dad, we contacted Sloan’s Dr. DeMatteo & spoke with his secretary Betty. We then sent a FedEx overnight package of Dad’s CD imagery and doctor notes, to DeMatteo- per the attention of Betty. The objective was to have the doc. review the materials to see if there was anything they could do for Dad, outside of standard chemo or if they had any recommendations for alternative treatments. We followed up a few days later & found the office to be very responsive. Although there was nothing they could do for Dad, we certainly appreciated their follow through and diligence.

Sloan KetteringAs an aside, Dad did secure a very aggressive team at the Guthrie Robert Packer hospital in Sayre PA (3.5 hrs. from NYC). They were the only ones (out of a dozen second opinions) that were willing to try a combo of chemo, radiation, and attemted resection (if the tumor could be shrunk just a bit).
Unfortunately Dad passed away 7 weeks ago, but the oncology team never quit on him- sadly, it was just his time to go.
Hope that helps! I have other east coast names of cc. docs, should you want them, just drop me an e-mail
Best to you,
TessMay 3, 2009 at 5:46 pm #2250daniellemargSpectatorHello,
I posted this question in the wrong spot so apologies for asking twice. Do any of you know of any good oncologists at Sloan Kettering (or any other really good oncologists in NYC with expertise in CC? Jim and I are planning to move to the Big Apple and don’t have any links. We’ve heard that SK is really good but would love to hear your thoughts.Grateful for any advice and thanks in advance
