I will be doing the American Cancer Society Relay for Life again this year (my 7th year: 2nd as a cc patient). This year I asked if anyone in my team minded if I put out brochures for cc. They all said it was fine. So I will be ordering them for June. I also think I’ll ask at Sloane Kettering if I can put brochures out on some of the tables for new and existing patients, since a good number of patients in the waiting room are cc patients.
January 28, 2012 at 4:24 pm #56981lainySpectatorgoodheartedmommy, anything, anything at all that anyone does to get the “cause” out there is so very helpful. To re coin a phrase “a small step for mankind, a BIG step for CC”. None of us in our worst nightmare would ask for anything like CC but we sure are a Proud, Brave, Courageous, Loving bunch of bananas! Say, a banana is yellow. Never thought of that. That could be our fruit mascot and we could say, “Peel back CC” Just clowning around! Sorry.
About the Bracelets, not sure if anyone ordered that amount before.January 28, 2012 at 12:41 pm #56980goodheartedmommyMemberIt sounds like there is a lot of fundraising and awareness raising going on! In the face of something so ugly, that makes me so happy.
Something we are doing is delivering brochures to area hospitals and cancer clinics. We felt so scared and alone after dad’s diagnosis, and of course there is no one right there telling you they have been there, too. Hopefully my small job of delivering those brochures can help people connect with this lovely group easier.
Also, has anyone ordered several hundred of the bracelets? Wondering how much time I need to give to get that many. I want to hand them out at our event.
January 28, 2012 at 8:05 am #56979nancy246SpectatorThe kids and I are planning a fundraiser for September (1 year memorial for Doug). We are going to have a bike/hike up Mount Revelstoke where Doug’s ashes are spread. Doug was an avid biker so it seems fitting to do a bike but for those of us that aren’t so apt to go straight up a mountain on a bike, we will hike! We are getting pledge sheets done up with proceeds going to the cc foundation. I will be ordering wrist bands for the participants and a few other things for draw prizes. The day will end with a barbecue at the chalet. We are just in the initial planning stages but we are excited! Any suggestions/success stories would be appreciated. Hugs. Nancy
January 28, 2012 at 7:30 am #56978marionsModeratorGreat job, Pam. It will be a success. Thank you for helping us spread the word – Cholangiocarcinoma should become a household name.
All my best wishes,
MarionJanuary 28, 2012 at 4:05 am #56977lainySpectatorI knew we could depend on you! I can’t wait to hear how the benefit goes! I am sure it will be a rousing success!
January 28, 2012 at 3:16 am #56976pamelaSpectatorLainy,
I ordered 150 brochures to put on all the tables at Lauren’s benefit next Sat. Hopefully it will explain exactly what CC is and bring awareness to the 250-300 people that are attending!!
Love, -Pam
January 28, 2012 at 12:45 am #56975lainySpectatorMY BAD! I apologize but I looked up after the video and saw that Tiff reposted what you wrote and had a senior moment thinking it was you, goodhearted mommy! Again, the look on her face as she was thinking about her poppop was priceless!
January 27, 2012 at 11:42 pm #56974tiff1496MemberI think Lainy might have us confused! 😎
January 27, 2012 at 11:12 pm #56973goodheartedmommyMemberI’m not tiff but that’s my baby girl and thanks. She sure loves her poppop. By the way, the video was all her. No one told her what to say!
January 27, 2012 at 10:57 pm #56972lainySpectatorTiff your video is fabulous and I can’t stop the tears! First of all what an adorable little girl! Next, at the end when she says she wants her Pop, Pop to get better you can just see the concern on her little face. This is great! If you need brochures just send an email to Stacie at the CC Board and you shall have them. I gave them out at Teddy’s Memorial where we had about 300 people. Best of luck and that video is a winner!

We made the video to share on the facebook page we made for my dad. Someone whose dad has cc.saw it on facebook, and I’ve had over 30 friends share it. Our fundraiser is focusing on really raising awareness.
I seen the video on facebook! She is so sweet, and smart!

January 27, 2012 at 9:48 pm #56969tiff1496MemberYes!! We used the name CC when doing our flyers. And also on the radio when talking about my fundraiser.
Can we buy the trifold brochures? Like the one that came with the wristbands?
January 27, 2012 at 9:36 pm #6266lainySpectatorTo My CC Family:
So far the only way we have to draw awareness to our CholangioCarcinoma is to get our name out there and we need to take advantage of any moment we can to do that. Keeping that in mind it would be wonderful if members who are having a Fund Raiser or any kind of Gathering used the name in their flyers, ads and announcements. People are starting to have more events and with CC Month the month of February it would be so splendid to begin the new year by using the words CC as much as we can in print. It is a small thing to do that could produce a lot of needed attention.
