Hi, unfortunately the only thing we know for sure about CC is that we know not enough! For a few years we were getting Korean and Nam Vets and it is believed that there is a Parasite in these countries called ‘liver flukes’ that lives in some fish and water (you can google it, I am not good with scientific terms) and if it is ingested the Parasite adheres to the intestines for 30 – 40 years. There is no way of detecting it. After it leaves it leaves behind CC. If this is true it still does not account for why so many others are getting CC and so many different ages. So, once again we just don’t know. This is why it is so important to get CC out there and in the open for research.
P.S. Love the remark about loooking like a Mummy. You may start a whole new fad!

    Hi lost soul,

I can’t have dairy either. Doesn’t leave a lot of options for us. I hope your treatments go o.k. tomorrow.

thanks everyone for responding.. yes i do have a cat scan tomorrow and chemo it will be a long day for me! In a week i get my results so i am hoping for the best.

I do follow a wheat free diet. When i was told about my Ceilac a year ago i immediately went on a gluten free diet and then came off dairy. I was still getting sick which is when i found out even after going on a gluten free and dairy free diet you can still have food sensitivites to alot of other foods like tomatoes fruit or high sugar foods corn depends on the person.

After they put my stent in that endoscopy showed all that my stomach had completely healed itself from a year ago so it wasnt the gluten making me sick!

But also about a few days to a week later all the inflamation went down and all the stomach problems i was having went away and I was able to eat again.

I try to be carefull following the diet but sometimes crumbs can get into food or slip ups happen so it could be that and i am really sensitive one little crumb and ill be paying for it later! Or maybe i ate something bad that could happen too. It got a little better so hopefully it goes away. I will take some immodium!

lost soul – Margaret is right. There are lots of restaurants that now offer gluten free menus – my favorite is PF Changs. There are also many gluten free items at the grocery store…..they are little pricey but worth it……I’ve tried them all so if you are considering a brand, let me know. I had a friend make me gluten free chex mix and it tasted just like the real thing. A lot of people are eating gluten free as a diet choice and a way to lose weight so there are more products out there. 5 years ago, my grocery store had one lonely shelf of gluten free items – now there is an entire section.

Margaret, I am going through a bout with ulcerated colitis and curious as to what you have been taking for it. I have been on Prednisone and now he added Asacol. The Asacol is really helping in the healing.

Lost soul: You need to avoid Wheat at all costs. Shopping for Gluten Free foods is hard, but most of the major food stores now have Gluten free sections! Avoid any food that you have a reaction to. This probably means giving up fast food places and resturants. But there are gluten free resturants in some major cities.

I do not have celiac disease, but do have Colitis (lucky me) and my mom had it as well. I learned very quickly to avoid foods that reacted negatively to my body. Just recently I learned that the medication that I’d been taking for colitis was making it worse instead of helping it! After three weeks of issues I had a colonoscopy and my doc immediately took me off the medication and put me on a MUCH cheaper OTC (Over the counter) med which works wonders when I have a flare up. And with colitis STRESS is a big factor.

In all the reading I have done in the past 4 years when my husband was fighting CC I never once seen a connection in the liturature regarding this type connection (celiac disease and CC).

Sorry I don’t have more to offer, but I do know that people with Colitis have a greater chance of getting CC then those who do not have it. (Lucky me again).

In any case, keep us posted on what is happening. Do some research on the internet. You may be amazed at what you find.

    Hugs,
    Margaret

lostsoul – when I was diagnosed with celiac, my doctor told me I could never eat gluten again – the villi in my intestines were completely flat. It didn’t take too long before I was feeling much better. I am very careful about what I eat and have become a “label reader”. Anytime I have cheated, I have paid for it by being sick the next day. I too miss all of the yummy foods I used to eat….especially birthday cake! I hate feeling left out of the celebration. However, I have found a gluten free/dairy free brownie mix that is wonderful! So if there is a party, I have something yummy to eat too.

    Hope your scan goes well.

Thanks Betsy…. there is so much to be explored in re: to what causes the mechanism of cell division resulting in cancer.

Marion – I know you are at a higher risk of intestinal cancer is you continue eating gluten and you have celiac. As far as I know, doctors haven’t been able to connect celiac and liver cancer.

lostsoul…you only have one more day to go until your scan and I am sending a tidal wave of good wishes for a good report.
I suppose that you don’t have a temperature. If so then you would want to call your physician immediately so that a stent blockage can be ruled out.
Good luck tomorrow and please, keep us posted.
    All my best,
    Marion

I don’t know much about Celiac or it’s diet but a few years ago we were invited to a dinner party at a friend’s home and she has Celiac. The whole entire meal from soup to dessert was gluten free and it was delicious. I know there are many recipe books out for Celiac or you and even goodle them and so many Groceries and Special Markets have a lot of gluten free food. Best of luck on your diet.

but how long generally does this take to develop? last year on my endoscopy when i found out i had Celiac and my stomach was completly derstroyed from the glutenthey didnt see the cancer at all and now i am in stage 4 and it was spreading very fast apparenntly if they couldnt pick it up and now i have all this crap in me. and when i did my endoscopy this year when they put the stent in my stomach had healed itself cause i stayed away from wheat so well so it wasnt that that was making me sick it was the inflammed liver/cancer/food sensitivites from Ceiliac.

ive been doing so so i went to Trinidad to see my sister for a week and it was really fun but my brother and her kids were all sick so i got sick from then and the plane we came back Thursday and i have my first cat scan on tuesday! im so nervous but i havent had any issues except my stomach which i cant tell if its from the Celiac or the chemo

the funny part is for the whole year after i was diagnosed i was feeling sick still no matter what i ate i litterally only ate dry chicken with nothing but salt n black peper on it rice and lettuce cause i was scared of fructose in veggies

after i was diagnosed with this cancer they put the stent in and i magically could eat everything again all my liver inflamation went away it went down to almost normal. (i looked llike Homer Simpson prior to the stent)

now i ate out a few times so i dont know if im getting sick again because of wheat or because my stent needs to be changed or because of my Chemo i know the gas is from my chemo

and when u eat wheat it takes a few weeks to be back to normal again and i was even eating dairy before a little after they put the stent and now i cant again so i dont know whats going on i think im back to my rice and chicken diet cause i keep getting sick :( ahh it was so great to eat yummy food and not get sick i almost cried cause it had been that long since i was able to enjoy food.

i was even starting to put on weight and now its down again so im a little scared for the results of my cat scan…although that and insomnia which ive always had a bit but is worse now seem to be my only issues.

im going to try my plain diet for like a month and see if it helps.

Betsy…interesting to know. I wonder whether it has something to do with the constant irriation of the intestines.
    All my best wishes,
    Marion
