“The microscope is housed in a very small probe and then the probe is passed through the endoscope,” Dr. Firas Al-Kawas told us. “Essentially it’s kind of like using a microscope in the patient instead of taking the patient to the microscope.”
“This new device is also being used during colonoscopies, and the standard pancreatic and bile duct cancer detection procedure. Dr. Al-Kawas said they are able to reach places bowel ducts where they can not even get to with a standard scope.”
