Richard, Charlie got such a kick out of reading this. Anybody that loves the Cowboys like he does is great with him! He usually smokes a turkey outside with a charcoal smoker for the big shindig with us, his sisters and their family’s. We’re going to put that tradition on hold this year, but definitely get back to it next Thanksgiving. Slow cooked for 12 to 15 hours with a little wood for smokiness thrown in. That’s a good turkey!

    Prayers coming your way,
    Carol

    Carol,

Tell Charlie I’ve been a die hard Cowboys fan since I was a little boy also. Although “little boy” for me meant the Danny White years, not Dandy Don. From Danny White to Gary Hogeboom (of “Survivor” fame) to Steve Pelleur (with a brief appearance by the immortal Babe Laufenberg) to Troy Aikman to Quincy Carter to Chad Hutchinson/Drew Henson (our “pitcher/QB” experiments) to Vinny Testaverde to Drew Bledsoe (football’s version of Wally Pipp) to Tony Romo…

Please wish Charlie a great turkey and pigskin day for me and say to him – “How ’bout them Cowboys!”

Richard, you’re right about the power of prayer! I hope and pray your Dad is doing better. I know what you mean about chemo. At some point in the future, Charlie might have to decide whether to start it again too and it’s so rough on their bodies. Always keeping you and your family in my prayers.

Kris, you’re in our prayers too!!

Hi Jeff, Charlie’s been a Dallas Cowboys fan since he was a little boy. Sing away with your Christmas Carols Jeff. I’ll join you. So far so good. Good tip about the Gaviscon. Wish I could get him to take it, but he enjoys the gasiness too much. He thinks it’s hilarious. So who am I to take that from him?? I was thinking cyber knife too. Met with surgeon just for check up on Fri. Sounds like all is well. Meet with oncologist that was the first dr. we met at UNC to see what’s next if anything end of Nov.

Thank you all for your prayers! I wish you all a happy and peaceful Thanksgiving!!

Carol, Carol, Carol, and with out a doubt Charlie! Charlie! Charlie! I have just been going bananas! I am so happy he is home watching football. Who is he rooting for? Patriots not doing to bad hey? I had and have tumor on remaining lobe as well but it has been at bay and even shrunk a little in the last couple years. Post Op suggestion is take temp regularly and any sign over 100 degrees or no temp and sweats go to ER to get WBCs checked and possible CT of resection site. Only said this as a precaution not to worry you guys. This news makes me wanting to sing Christmas Carols! No punt intended Carol. Hydration and Gaviscon tablets for gasiness (Is that a word?)
    God Bless,
    Jeff G.
P.S. Some Oncologist frown at 3D conformal radiation to the liver but I did it and like I said it has remained at bay since then. If they are small enough maybe cyber knife. Just an additional thought. It would have to be evaluated of course. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

    Carol,

I am so happy for you and your family. Makes me feel good about the power of prayer. That is the best news and gives me hope for my dad. He had a really good week last week and his labs had improved to the point where the onc felt okay starting chemo again (first round of gemzar). Unfortunately, today was not a good day as he seemingly went from asymptomatic to problematic over a 24-hour period. I don’t know if starting chemo again was a good idea.

Hope Charlie is having a good time watching MNF!

Chapel Hill, NC was home for a week, but so good to be back in Winston-Salem. Charlie is doing amazingly well. Dr. Calvo took out about 60% of Charlie’s liver and was very positive about the outcome. We will be learning soon how to handle the 2 small tumors left in his remaining lobe. He is sitting here on the couch watching Mon. night football. I can’t believe how well he’s doing. Thank you ALL so much for your encouragement and prayers. It’s going to take me a while to catch up on all the new posts since I was on a week ago, but I will! Love and blessings to all.

    With MUCH Gratitude,
    Carol
