I did alot of research on Dr Geschwind. If I had C.C, thats who I would go see. I think your in good hands.
My father had the same procedure as you. It killed most of the tumor. I feel the mistake he made was not to keep on attacking it with treatments, chemo. etc…His treatments were at Mayo in M.N. In my opinion, they were not aggressive enough.
We were set up to go see your doctor and it just didn’t happen. If you can handle the treatments, keep on it. I think your on the right track.

Jean et al. – Thanks for the support.

Plitidepsin is a new drug being developed by PharmaMar which is a Spanish drug company. This is a Phase 1 trial so it still has a ways to go before coming to market. I believe it is a cytotoxic drug like Gemzar which kills cancer cells (and healthy cells) directly. The only places where this is being tested are the Cancer Institute of NJ and some place in France.

    Hi John

It sounds as if you’ve had very good results from the chemoembolization. A very good reason to be happy I’d say! I’m so glad to hear that. The clinical trial sounds interesting. I haven’t heard of plitidepsin. Do you know what class of drug it would fall under? Have there been previous trials using this drug with Gemzar or in combination with other drugs?

Wishing you continuing success as you move forward with your treatments!

John…of course, you are happy. I am happy to hear that Dr. Geschwind achieved such great results. Hoping for your energy to return as well.

You can read my complete post about it here: http://johnur.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/03/update-march-26th-die-die-die-my-darling-edition.html

But I just wanted to share that after two chemoembolization treatments at Johns Hopkins, my main liver tumor has shrunk 1.5cm (from 6.5 to 5.0) and much of it is in a state of necrosis. The doctor wouldn’t go so far as saying it was completely dead, as there might be some cells on the edge of the tumor that could not be seen in the MRI… but she was very positive.

Of course, I’m happy – even more so because the treatments kicked my butt and I’m glad it was not for naught.

Best of luck to everyone else.
    -John
