Hi Amy,
Nothing wrong with feeling down and thinking about everything, I guess thats pretty natural and my dad used to have days like that as well. Then he would be okay again the next day and would be back to his usual cheery self telling us his bad jokes and eating lots! I know when I was feeling down about everything coming here certainly helped me, and I hope that if you are having a bad day or need to let off some steam then I hope that coming on here will also help you. We are all here for you.
And what a great weekend you have to look forward to, becoming a grandma again! Such good news ineed! I hope you will have a great weekend and I wish you and all your family my very best wishes.
Gavin

February 10, 2010 at 6:48 pm #35508gavinModeratorHi Amy,
Welcome to the site, although I am sorry that you have to be here. I was my dads carer during his fight with CC but he never had chemo so I can’t help you with that question, but I wanted to join Lainy and Kris in welcoming you here. I hope you will come back often as you will get loads of support and helps from us all.
I know that my dad would get nervous when it came to getting scans and stuff and I guess that is just natural. From what you say, it sounds like you are doing good right now and I hope that continues for a long time indeed. Kris is so right when she says who knows what lies around the corner.
Stay positive and my best wishes to you,
Gavin
February 10, 2010 at 6:55 am #35507devoncatSpectatorWelcome Amy,
I am also stage iv and am doing fantastic. Like you, I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop and worry about all little aches and pains. Fear is overwhelming sometimes. After a year of chemo, my doctors have decided to go in and see if they can do some radical surgey on me. Most likely not, but we are all ready to give it a go. My point is, we dont know what is around the corner. We have had several members who live with stable disease for years. You might be one of them.Hugs.
KrisFebruary 10, 2010 at 3:50 am #35506lainySpectatorWelcome to our Family, Amy. Sounds like you are doing quite well. The thing is, with CC we don’t know much. Reactions are never the same, we never know when shoes will be dropping so we stay very positive and have great attitudes as you an tell here. I always say, it is what it is, now let’s do something about it and you certainly are. Enjoy each day and thank goodness your chemo cocktail seems to be working so well. Most of our “nervous” times are Lab times and scan times. Who knows. When I think Teddy is doing great, he has a higher count or bad scan. When I think he may be doing poorly he comes out a winner. The one thing we know with CC is that we really know not much. It is wonderful that you are working and living life well. Please keep us posted on your progress. Where is your CC and where are you from? Come visit often and feel free to ask, advise or vent all you want.
February 10, 2010 at 1:18 am #35505brownsbackerSpectatorHi everyone!
My name is Amy and Im 48 and I have stage 4 terminal
cc. I was told Oct.2008.I tried an experimental drug at first and it didnt work so try took me off it and now Im on Xeloda and Gemzar every two weeks.I just thought I would share with you that Im not sick or tired on this treatment Im even working fulltime. My tumor markers have gone from 155 to 67.I was wondering if anyone was ok at first than the shoe dropped so to speak.Im nervous all time that my blood work is going to come back bad or that every little pain that something is wrong.Dont get me wrong I thank GOD every day that Im not having any problems , Im just very worried.Any words of encouragement?February 10, 2010 at 12:46 am #35504ashleySpectatorHi Christina,
Welcome to the site. I don’t have any info on CC and colon cancer together, but I know on the CC side, if the patient is healthy and the cancer can be resected with good margins it seems to be prefered as the better option over chemo alone so it sounds like Chuck is fortunate to have the choice of surgery. Many people on this site cannot be resected initially and their goal is to then do chemo to shrink the tumors in hopes of allowing resection.. however, on the flip side, chemo alone has been effective in some cases.
Are chuck’s other docs ( mayo, etc) kept in the loop on this new tumor and whether they would suggest resection??
Keep us in the loop!
ashley from connecticutFebruary 10, 2010 at 12:01 am #35503christina1SpectatorI apologize I figured out how to search this site. Okay, so I understand that Xeloda and Gemcitabine are chemo medications.
So my question is this, is CC always vascular?
And if not, then when it is in fact vascular, can these chemo medications help that?
I am just wondering if it could help Chuck as either a choice to forgo having resection on his colon, or if it is something that would be recommended after resection at a certain point?
Thanks,
Chrisitina
February 9, 2010 at 11:37 pm #35502christina1SpectatorThank you all for your replies. I noted a survivor treated in 2006 and wrote in 2008 that it was by means of 7 grueling months of Xeloda and Gemcitibine. Are those like chemo meds?
Sorry I am new at this.
Thanks,
Christina
February 9, 2010 at 8:35 am #35501devoncatSpectatorHi Chuck and welcome to the site.
I dont have any experience with it in my colon. I guess that is the one organ it decided to stay away from in me.
Good luck on your surgery and have an easy recovery. Let us know how it goes.

MarionFebruary 9, 2010 at 2:10 am #35499lainySpectatorHi Chuck and welcome to our Family but sorry you had to visit. You already are a SURVIVOR and Gavin is so right, this will be a walk in the park compared to what you have been through. I just wanted to add that my husband had cyber knife a year ago. He had a Whipple almost 5 years ago at the age 73 and the CC returned a year ago where his duodenum used to be. Got it with CK. To me CK is a true Miracle. He now has 2 new tumors, 1 near the kidney and the other near the liver but we have already been told they will do CK again! Right now though they are watching as for some strange reason they seem to be shrinking. PET Scan next month will tell us more. You an read about it under my Posts as Lainy. Good luck and please keep us posted.
February 9, 2010 at 12:57 am #35498gavinModeratorHi Chuck,
Welcome to the site, although I am sorry that you have to be here. That sure is some journey that you have been on, and I thank you so much for sharing it with us all. A long road for you indeed! I can’t help you specifically with your question regarding CC passing from the liver to the colon, but I wanted to welcome you here. And I am sure that others will be along soon to help you with your question.
Yes you are right in that this is a wonderful website and everyone here has helped me so much, and I know that they will all do the same for you. I hope you will come back often and post any and all questions that you may have, or if you just need to vent and let off some steam, then please do so as we all understand and are here for you.
My best wishes to you,
Gavin
