    Hi Andie,

Yes the DN is right in that your dad is a real fighter indeed, and so are you! Sounds like your dad is having one of these bad days today and hopefully tomorrow he will bounce back and will have a good one. From everything that you have said about your dad, it sounds like he and my dad shared the same up’s and down’s along the way. And my dad also said to me that he had had enough at one time, then he felt better the next day so hoping that your dad will too.

My dad also took Lansoprazole, once a day before his tea in the evening and he took this for quite some time. When he first got the itching he tried Piriton so maybe that is the med that your dads doc prescribed for him? Is your dad up for having the Mac nurse come and see him yet?

Hoping for a better day for your dad tomorrow.

    Best wishes,

    Gavin

    Hi Gavin,

Yes the Doctor has given him some Proton pump inhibitor tablets, lansoprazole. They are supposed to control the acid and hopefully stop it producing the excess mucous which results in post nasal drip. He has also prescribed him tablets for his itching, again can’t remember the name but they are tiny orange tablets and he has to take 3 a day.

Sometimes he is getting confused and Mom said he is talking alot in his sleep almost like nightmares but not enough to wake him up. His eyes seem really sunken today and he admitted to me he has had enough now, he is so frustrated with everything. Saying that we do have these odd dark days and the next he bounces back, so hopefully timorrow will be better. The DN told me Friday he is a real fighter and doing very well, she works in the same building as me and told me if I need to ask anything they are always there, so that’s good to know.

    Best wishes to everyone

    Hi Andie,

My dad had the runny nose for ages as well, even when it was not cold here or anything like that. And like your dad, he never had chemo so we couldn’t put it down to that either. We never really knew what caused it and he didn’t take anything for it. Did you get the prescription today, and if so what was it?

Best wishes to you and your dad,

    Gavin

My dad has a constant runny and/or stuffy nose. It seems worse with chemo, but now he has had three weeks off and still has the symptoms. He also sneezes more than normal.

I hope whatever the doctor prescribes helps him Andie – sounds like something that would annoy the heck out of anyone!

Thanks Pam, he is doing really well and I’m so proud of him. He is not taking anything for pain relief as luckily no pain. He is taking ciprofloxin and has been since May.

Lainy, my Nans nose runs too but my Dad is in a different league, it’s like someone has left a tap on and it’s happening all the time now. No headache or facial pain just drip drip drip!!

I have read somewhere that acid can cause excess mucous and also that when the liver is under pressure then excess mucous can also be produced to filter out the toxins! wasn’t sure if anyone else had any experience of this.

Hopefully the doctor will prescribe a solution.

Andie, If your dad is using morphine this could be the cause for his runny nose. It happened to my dad in moderation. This is what we were told. Your dad has done really well for so long! I remember all your posts around the same time I was posting about my dad. You keep such a watchful eye on him! :)

Andie, my mom ALWAYS had a runny nose when she ate. Never sick a day in her 94 years. Now I have been getting the same thing. It just runs we don’t know why. Maybe its something due to sinus?

Since being diagnosed with CC last year my Dad has had a runny nose. It was mainly when he was eating and we put it down to the side effects of Ciprofloxin but the last few weeks it is running constantly. He is also suffering from heartburn. The papaya enzymes have stopped working and the heartburn comes on even when he hasn’t eaten.

If we could sort out his runny nose I’m sure he’d feel much better in himself as it is really getting him down. The nurse has contacted the doctor and a prescription should be ready tomorrow, I don’t know what he has prescribed.

Has anyone else suffered from this? Dad isn’t on any treatment so chemo hasn’t caused this.

He is very tired and his appetite has fallen alot the past week, luckily no pain still and the external drain has stopped leaking now they have attached the bag direct to where the drain leaves the body.

    Thanks in advance
