Which Mayo? There are lots of companies that will help with flights online. But you have to qualify early enough to get a seat. One is called Angel Flight. We drive 10 hours 1 way, and get rembursied thru our insurance. Go to Bing and type in free Cancer flights.
May 29, 2010 at 5:20 pm #38512ashleySpectatorHi Rick,
the several times we flew from Providence to Rochester, MN the flights were in the $600-$700 range.. we never found anything cheaper into the area. This weekend you can fly Detroit to Minneapolis for $606 round trip on Southwest, which is better than $1,000 but you have to take an hour shuttle to Rochester. Southwest is good because you can change your flight with no fee ( if avail). We flew a lot on American directly to Rochester because they have a special services ticket for Mayo patients. While the tickets are not any cheaper, you can call and also change them as many times as you want without a fee. I think I read your are going this week? Good luck to you for the ERCP- you are in the best of hands at the Mayo!
AshleyMay 28, 2010 at 3:34 pm #38511lisaSpectatorIt continually suprises people when I tell them that there is no financial aid out there for our type of cancer. It seems to cruel to punish people for having the wrong type of cancer. Cancer is cancer and can be devastaing financially no matter what kind you have. Why cancer help can’t be made available for all – not just the politically correct kind – just boggles my mind. Marion, I know you are trying and it’s not your fault!
I tell people I don’t support Susan B Komen for the Cure because they don’t support me. And I never wear a pink ribbon. So there!

May 28, 2010 at 2:43 am #38509lainySpectatorRick, I don’t know if this helps but I was guessing you would depart from Detroit and fly into Rochester MN not Rochester NY. Based on that and not really knowing a date I saw that you could fly round trip to Rochester for 611.00 per person. OR you could fly round trip to Minneapolis and drive to Rochester (45 miles) for 521.00 per person round trip. Hope that helps.
May 28, 2010 at 1:08 am #38508marionsModeratorRick….The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation continuously strives to connect our members with organizations offering financial assistance. So far we have not been very successful with this endeavor. Although, assistance is granted to many our cancer however, has not been accepted. Grrrr……
I am hoping for someone to come forward with some helpful information.
Best of luck, dear Rick.
MarionMay 27, 2010 at 11:17 pm #3588rick-kampMemberI am wondering if anyone has any tips on cheap airfare to Mayo Clinic (or elsewhere)? It turns out that I need to have an ERCP done and my local GI is reluctant to do it and manage my metal stents and recommends that I go to someone more specialized. This pretty much means Mayo Clinic for me. But the travel is expensive, at over $1,000 per ticket and my wife will be coming with. It’s the best thing for my care, but I wish it was cheaper!
If there are any recommendations, I would appreciate it.
Rick
