I am so sorry about your loss. I have read the research pages and what your dad wrote and he was such a great person to share all his advice and experience with everyone. This disease is so horrible. My dad was diagnosed in September and we are so scared. It is so great for people like you to be around and help. Thank you so much about the info on the DC treatment. I have sent an e-mail to the Institute your dad went to to see what they say. My dad lives in Spain and I live in London. Will keep you posted.

I have just only just noticed your question so sorry for the delayed response. My Dad had Dendritic Cell vaccine administered in Germany. We travelled once a month to Germany for the treatment. You will find a discussion thread with all the info in the ‘research’ section of this site. This is an experiemental treatment (but then the same could be said for chemo) – the advantage of DC therapy is that it has no side effects other then fever on the evening of administration. This form of treatment is offered in some clinical trials (eg for pancreatic cancer at John Hopkins). The advantage we found to going to Germany is that Drs there are able to treat patients as individuals and prescribe/treat as they see best for that individual rather than being constrained by red tape and FDA/nice guidelines and lack of statistical data for this ‘rare’ cancer.
My Dad was diagnosed with a recurrance in April 06 and maintained a good quality of life until about 6 weeks before we lost him (last month).

Hi Jeff,
Well I have had a look for info on Escozul and it looks like it is blue scorpion venom that has had some success according to Cubans in treating cancer. Unfortunately, it looks like it is not widely available, the only apparently reliable source of this is Labiofam S.A in Cuba, and also it has not been approved for wide distribution (apparently Labiofam is in the process of getting it approved). Apparently other providers of Escozul don’t really sell the real product and some might sell it but in unsafe quantity. It sounds like a dead end to me unless travelling to Cuba but will let you know if I find out more.
Currently looking into the Davanat-5FU clinical trial but our European insurance doesn’t cover the costs so not sure we qualify for it.

Well, today I find out the results of my first scan since being diagnosed and starting on chemo. Depending on what the results show I will either start back on chemo (3 on 1 off routine) or punt. Feeling absolutely horrible this week (fever, vomiting, more pain) hasn’t exactly put my mind at ease….

In the time you have been fighting this disease did you try radiotherapy and did you ever combine Davanat with any of the chemo treatments? Also, have you heard of Escozul, blue scorpion venom in Cuba being used to treat cancer?

Great news about your scan and so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday.
I believe immunotherapy bought my Dad alot more time free of harsh side effects. When it became apparent that the DC cells were no longer effective on the cancer Dr Nesslehut modified the treatment – when he drained ascitic fluid from my dad he isolated the cancer cells and primed the DC cells to attack those cells specifically. Unfortuantly my Dad was quite weak by the time he had his first treatment with this new protocol and was not able to continue with it, however I think the development of this type of treatment is something that we should monitor here on this site..

We have missed hearing from you Jeff. Glad things are stable and you sound as though you are feeling ok. I’m trying to get Dave to consider a vacation but he is on a roll with this IV vitamin C and feeling well so wants to keep up the 3x a week for another couple months. Take Care and keep in touch. If you dont mind me asking a personal question…why are you changing oncologists? Is the one you are now going to be going to more experienced with immunotherapy? Sorry for the intrusion, but I do like to keep my specialists straight so I can make more informed decisions if I need to.
By the way, I have missed your “positiviness” here on the board. Nice to hear you refreshed from your vacation.
