Thanks for the suggestion, Nancy246! I’ve been making milkshakes with whole milk, strawberries and/or blueberries and ice cream. (Bananas are evil.) It’s very filling and tastes great. It’s just sometimes too cold to drink though. *g*
It’s a kicker though. First time in my life I can actually eat anything I want but can’t. Life sure does throw you curve balls.

I was concerned about my husbands weight loss and the doctor suggested whey protein powder. Since being on this the past week he has gained 5 lbs. We bought the vanilla flavoured. I have made it with 2 bananas, 3 tbsp of peanut butter, 2 scoops of the whey powder and then fill half of your blender up with milk. Another way is I put in mixed berries and a banana plus the whey powder, some milk and some orange juice. You can come up with all sorts of concoctions! Anyway it seems to be working for him and he likes them! We bought the whey powder at our Pharmasave but health food stores would carry it as well. Good luck. Nancy

About five years ago I weighed over 300lbs (I’m 5’8″) and gradually lost 150lbs over three years. Then in 2009 I’m diagnosed with anal cancer and then liver cancer. Three surgeries, radiation and chemo later I lost about 30 more pounds. Cancer free for seven months and now I’m dealing with CC. I’m now down to 120 something so it’s very important that I eat to keep up my strength. Hopefully this drug will just make me want to eat something which is better than the nothing I’m consuming now.

I also am on dexamethasone with my chemo days. It is also for nausea and can help with any possible reactions. It works for the nausea, but as with kathy I also have some weight gain with it too. I don’t want or need the gain either, but I am glad I am here to bitch about it. It makes me a little wired for a day, but other than that I tolerate it well.
ShariJanuary 29, 2011 at 2:59 pm #47249kathybMemberI’ve taken dexamethasone while on Cis/Gem. It did stimulate my appetite, but its purpose for me was to avert nausea. Did a great job on that count as I did not have any nausea. I also gained weight which I did not want/need to do.
January 29, 2011 at 7:38 am #4687joolz822MemberI’ve been prescribed this and will begin taking it to tomorrow. I searched and only found a few references to it.
Anyone else taken this before or are currently taking it? They want me to take it because I’m terribly underweight and they’re hoping it will stimulate my appetite. I see it also helps reduce fluids and I sure could use it. I’ve gained at least 6lbs of fluid weight in the last few days. I have to keep track of my weight and if I gain anymore I have to call the doctor’s office on Monday.
At least I’ve finished the second round of my eight part chemo.
