Thanks to all. Yesterday my husband had a low grade fever and was looking pretty yellow. We go for labs today, but stenting may not be that far off. I will send our Doctor the trials info and see what he has to say.

Leslie…..In addition to what Kris has mentioned, you would want to discuss your thought with the physician.

The below link allows for a comprehensive overview of clinical trials:

The clinical trial mentioned in Gavin’s posting is to evaluate the efficacy of Photodynamic Therapy given at time of stent placement. This would then eliminate an additional intervention via a radiology appointment.

    Leslie –
One approach you may try, using the link about that Gavin posted, scroll down toward the bottom, there is a spot for recruitment and it give the names and contact information for the two places they study is recruiting at (when it starts). There are email addresses for both, I would email them and see what conditions are needed…..may be able to answer some of your questions. Most studies on the http://www.clinical.gov site have some sort of contact information. I would think it would vary from study to study.
    Hope that helps.

    Hello Gavin,
My husband was diagnosed with locally advanced cholangiocarcinoma in January of this year. The first 6-week battle was to gain control of the unrelenting pain he was enduring. Once that was achieved, we started Chemotherapy. He has finished two rounds. Once the third round is completed, they will do a CT scan to see how well the chemotherapy is working. However, recognizing that chemo is not particularly effective, I started searching out clinical trials. Dr. Kahaleh’s PDT trial is of particular interest. However, since we live in Canada, I’m not sure what to do. How does one get into a trial? Can you participate in a trial even if you don’t live in the centre where the trial is being conducted? Does anyone have any insight/experience they could offer? Please advise. Thanks
