Ernie Harwell

Just wanted to note the passing of Ernie Harwell, longtime announcer for the Detroit Tigers and a friend who soldiered through our illness.

A long line lasted late into the night outside Comerica Park where fans of legendary Tiger broadcaster Ernie Harwell streamed by his open casket yesterday to pay tribute and remember the gentle man who graced the airwaves for more than five decades. Harwell died Tuesday at the age of 92 from bile duct cancer.

Detroit team manager Dave Dombrowski, who stood at the viewing area for much of the day, shaking hands with people, remarked that many of them said of Ernie.
